However, since he pitched the expedition as "Saving Sansa Stark", he cannot openly act against her/Stark interests where anyone who isn't involved in his lies can easily find out. The vast majority, if not almost all, of the Knights of the Vale are not actually in Littlefinger's pocket - they all (or almost all) believe that they're headed to the North for the purpose of saving Sansa Stark from the vile Boltons who stole her from the Vale, and so they wouldn't hit Stark supporters.
