Juliet Burke
I heard many times that GRRM said that Iron Throne would be taken by unexpected character in the end of the series. Is it really true? Did he really say this?

PCK
So says the guy that writes the story.
firepoet
As far as I know, his only comment has been that a few different people will sit it before the story is over. But I do like the idea. If the story ends with an irrelevant nameless side character taking the throne, it would really drive home GRRM's point about how pointless the Game of Thrones is. James Steller
I feel like every named character in the series has been 'expected' to take the Throne at some point or other. The only way to make it unexpected is to reveal a completely new character to take the throne, which would either be hailed as a brilliant point about the futility of power and life, or it'll be reviled as a cop-out.
