In the preview, who/what is Jaime smiling at?

Recommended Posts

Edit: I completely forgot about Bronn! Jaime is probably laughing at some typical Bronn joke.

While watching it initially, I thought Jaime was smiling at Walder Frey's toast to the Lannisters. The only named characters at Twins in the preview are Walder Frey, Lothar Frey, Black Walder, and Jaime. The three Freys are all sitting at the high table. At around 20 second mark, we see Jaime smiling at someone or something. We also see Walder Frey (out of focus) at the high table, behind Jaime. Assuming the two Freys have not left their seat beside their father, who is Jaime interacting with? The only  other character who could be there is Edmure, but from No One, I got the impression that Edmure was left at Riverrun. If it is Edmure, Walder Frey's toast could be a taunt to Edmure. It makes sense in some way, since there is no need to tell Jaime that 'Freys and the Lannisters send their regards', because Jaime himself is a Lannister. The toast could also be to King Tommen Baratheon, who sent Jaime to help the Freys.

If not Edmure, could there be a surprise guest at Riverrun? People that could be in the area are:

  • The Hound
  • Beric
  • Thoros

All three of them will be easily recognized, and are wanted by the crown. It will be foolish to turn up at a Frey party.

  • Arya (disguised as some random Frey girl ? No one knows what she looks like, and even the Freys may not know all their relatives by sight)
  • Hot Pie!! (because he's a cook, and got employment at the Twins?)
  • Gendry (Of course not! He's out there in the sea.)
  • Stonefish ?
  • Wyman Manderly?
  • Some kind of play? (another way for Arya to suddenly reach Westeros - by joining the troupe after all)
  • Roslin - the only 'plausible' option of all. Everything else is wishful thinking.

I don't think it is either of Freys (Walder is behind him, and Jaime does not particularly like Frey brothers, I doubt they will sit next to him or talk to him), Edmure (he will not be sitting in the feast celebrating Riverrun capture, and he is prisoner of House Lannister now, not Freys, I bet he either stayed in Riverrun and bent the knee to Lannisters or was escorted away somewhere else).

At this point I believe it is either Bronn or Arya-disguised-as-someone-else.

There is no way BwB can infiltrate a fully garrisoned Twins without any suspicion, that would be ridiculous.
