2 scenes where ghost could have showed up

Recommended Posts

 Just for fun....

1- When Ramsay releases Rickon, he sends his hounds after him. Jon Snow charges forward with ghost accelerating faster by his side. The hounds catch up to Rickon and when the leader of the pack leaps toward Rickon's back, he's caught mid-air by Ghost. The other hounds quickly forget about the boy and attack the direwolf. Rickon keeps running and when he's about to meet Jon, we hear a "woosh" and suddenly Rickon falls on his knees, eyes wide open with an arrow thru his heart. Cuts to Ramsay holding his bow who then looks at Ghost killing the last hound and prepares to shoot again, Ghost evades the arrow and returns to Jon.

or

2- When Ramsay meets Jon inside the walls of Winterfell. After a quick and unsuccessful attempt to strike Jon, Ramsay retreats and lures him into the dark Stable/Kennel. Ramsay grabs a torch and faces Jon slowly entering the kennel with his drawn sword. Ramsay displays his most devious smiles and whistles. Nothing happens... Instead, Ramsay hears a growl he's not familiar with. He slowly turns around extending his torch and sees Ghost, covered in blood and surrounded by dog carcasses. We see fear and panic on Ramsay's face for the first time on the show.

My descriptions of the scenes aren't good, but that could have looked great on the show. Also, since the 2 bastards have their own pets, they should have taken advantage of it.:)

Honestly the lack of Ghost is what sticks with me the most out of any "issues" with this episode.  Where was he.  Maybe I missed something in a previous episode and am just blanking.  But really shocked to not see him anywhere in this episode.  Someone pointed out in another thread (sorry for not remembering who) that it could have been as simple as Jon commanding him to stay with Sansa at the beginning of the battle.

For some reason Ramsey's dogs being at Winterfell didn't occur to me, and when I heard that growl when Sansa was talking to Ramsey really thought it was Ghost at first.

Ghost would have been dead quickly. He would need to be as lucky as job to have survived. Ghost has no instinct to survive or dodge what he can, so his chances were slim.

GRRM made a mistake writing it as if the big dog would be huge in a battle. The most one would pray for is for ghost to scare the horses away, nothing else!

Miguel Sapochnik explained it. The lack of Ghost was due to budget/time limits. Direwolves are crazy expensive/time-consuming. They had a choice between having Wun Wun or Ghost at the battle. They chose the giant (bigger threat to the enemy).

Martin can have all the direwolves scenes he so desires, they cost him nothing but some time to write them down. If GOT had blockbuster-level budget, we'd be getting direwolves in spades.

If time and cost of CGI is the issue which it might be true, then the showrunners should keep their mouths shut since it is a lame excuse.   Probably more about greed and feeling that they have a captive audience by now after season 5.   Many of the blogs and youtubers out there are saying that there are many new pay TV shows that are displaying better production values then this year's GOT so HBO need to get in there with some quality control.

As for the other suggestions, maybe they can be CGI'ed in later Lucas style after DVD, Blueray, and various box set and anniversary editions have petered out in sales.

Because everyone was asking them - "where is ghost"? So they wanted to explain that its not they forgot and they actually had him on original script with some pretty good Ghost scenes for the battle, it just they didn't have the budget nor the time. Including, the Jon's almost suffocation/trampling scene, it actually replaced several other intensive horse/fighting scenes that they were planned because they run out of time.
