The Long Price series was 4 short novels in which he tried to do something different. Then the Dagger and the Coin is a 5 part series of significantly longer novels, the result in part of that brainstorming session he did with other authors years ago, maybe some of you remember that. So Dagger and the Coin was the big idea that came from that and that required a fair bit of effort. So it's not that strange that having finished that, something else would be required to cleanse the palete. Abercrombie took a break from the First Law world as well after 6 books. Scott Lynch and Pat Rothfuss also seem to be taking breaks in between books. As stated, it was that hes done with fantasy, not that he's taking a break. Maester Llama Posted January 17, 2017 Share Posted January 17, 2017 Given how recently Keck announced A King in Cobwebs was finished and how long, seemingly, it can take Tor to get something in their schedule once it misses its slot I was pretty sure Cobwebs would not be out this fall, so I'm not surprised, but yeah, still too bad. First half of 2018, hopefully. I wonder where Tor's distribution of the novels based on the Pathfinder RPG went. There's none in this catalogue and they're also missing from the previous one; the last one scheduled comes out in April. I've never read one, but apparently they're fun sword-and-sorcery, and also Max Gladstone had one in the pipe in what sounded like an advanced state and I hope it has not been canned. Gladstone doing D&D-esque fiction could be great. I would like to read that. Maybe they weren't selling. Good catalogue for me. Ada Palmer's Too Like the Lightning is brilliant and more in that series on a swift turnaround is great news. I'm increasingly taken with the world of Fran Wilde's Bone Universe books, so it's great we're getting the next / last of those this year. And The Stone in the Skull, the start of Elizabeth Bear's new series in the Eternal Sky world, is a cause for particular joy. Brother Longfoot Posted January 17, 2017 Share Posted January 17, 2017 I've been following info about this anthology for a while and I'm pleased it finally had an Amazon page- The Book of Swords by Gardner Dozois- https://www.amazon.com/Book-Swords-Gardner-Dozois/dp/0399593764/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1484609714&sr=1-1 It's a sword and sorcery themed anthology and contains stories by among others Scott Lynch, Elizabeth Bear, Ken Liu, Mathew Hughes, K.J. Parker, Ellen Kushner, and apparently GRRM himself. Curious about the last one (obviously given this forum). When I had first heard of the anthology it was in the context of it being something Dozois was doing himself rather than the usual Martin/Dozois thing, but in a recent interview, Lynch and Bear had mentioned Martin being involved. I'm guessing that we aren't lucky enough to get a new "Dunk and Egg" story, so it will probably be one of those Targaryean/Westerosi history things. I've always been interested in reading in-universe tales of Lann the Clever and Pate the Pig Boy and would love if the story was something like that. Basically, I'd like to read something ASOIAF that's really in a Vancian/humorous mode. Not to speak ill of Martin, but while "The Rogue Prince" fit the subject matter of the Rogues anthology, it didn't really provide that kind of tone.
