Rowan Gold-Tree and the Gardens of Gelenei

Recommended Posts

So we all know that legends tend to get mixed about. So I was thinking that perhaps the legend about Rowan Gold-Tree and the Gardens of Gelenei are from the same root system (corny I know)

The Gardens of Gelenei has a gilded tree with leaves of hammered silver.

The apple wrapped in hair that was planted by Rowan sprouted a tree that had bark, leaves and fruits of yellow gold. Could they be the same legend and could the ASOIAF real inspiration for these trees be the Goldenheart trees of the Summer Isles?

That would certainly fit with the idea that Garth Greenhands is a remnant of the indigenous religions of the First Men long before the Pact. If Garth Greenhands was part of an Olympusesque pantheon that included all his children, who were perhaps the patron deities of certain groups or professions or regions. Like how Maris the Maid could have been the patron god of what became Oldtown in a similar way that Athena was the patron of Athens.

Also, Gelenei sounds a lot like Elenei, the daughter of the Sea God and Wind Goddess, also apparent holdovers of the indigenous religions.

Now that is a good catch. There is also the Garden of Gehane (which could possibly be in this realm) where Xaro pointed out that Ghost grass had started to grow.
