It's pretty easy actually. Don't go over 140 characters (including spaces), which we're not likely to do with even a fairly long acro. And that you can add hashtags. Example:

From @LordOfWinterfell
Trusted @LittlefingerBig_Money. Now in a dungeon.  #FML

@LittlefingerBig_Money replied
I told you. #SMH

@ThatCat replied
OMG! @LittlefingerBig_Money HOW COULD YOU? #disbelief

@LittlefingerBig_Money replied
Aw, Kitty Cat. Don't hate the player, hate the game. #YOLO

@LordOfWinterfell replied
Hello! Am I still in this conversation? Also @QueenBee what a biatch!

@QueenBee (Cersei) replied
@LordOfWinterfell That's a compliment,right?

@QueenBee replied
Three kids, still hot. Eat your heart out, Westeros. #smokin

:lmao:I love your example. @yomi Join for the fun it :)

If we can convince Yomi to play, we've got 7. Enough to start?

sounds like Gabe is already imaging the tweet taste of victory and no little bird to stop him. :huh:

To the first, I suspect that if you provide the first assignment and give at least 5 days to complete it, some people will join within that time. Some will probably need to try working on one before deciding to sign up. And as a general rule, many entries come in during the final few hours before the deadline.

To the second, I am on Twitter but I don't really use it so I think I am a considerable outsider on this one. Lady and the Sniffer have each shown themselves to be more proficient than I am at this concept.

Oh, no need to convince me of playing, I'll do that. It's just that I expect to be even worse than usual this time, and that I would be happy about some more explanations.

I think we should lay some ground rules before using acronyms.

For example due to character limit people may write Lord of Winterfell as LOW and Tywin Lannister as TL. This must not be allowed as they are not commonly used acronyms.

Also some people may not be familiar with certain acronyms like the one stated in previous post like SMH, FML and also it is not easy to list all the possible acronyms so, the host may allow participants to explain such acronyms under " Note: SMH-Shake/ing my head "

P.S: This is just my suggestion because I don't want to burden the host with unnecessary questions.

I have seen a few posts out there with a glossary of acros on the forum so I just need to pull those together..

Agree with being allowed to include explanations.  Since it's the first time we are doing this, I think it will certainly help people to get into the groove.

I will post it along with the first acro tomorrow and give the weekend for the first deadline.

I think I have to agree. Explanations in Acrophobia would make things very messy.

Do make the forum glossary available in the thread for 'Planetosary' acronyms. Maybe provide a link to it with each new round of entries.

Anything from the real world I would just google.

I have added a list of abbreviations in the opening here.  It's pretty complete and couldn't really see the need to add to it.

So, let's skip the explanations.  Perhaps folks who feel the need to invent additional abbr. and to explain them can do so at the cost of 1 point.:D

Let us begin....

ROUND 1:

Sansa –

At that moment, standing watching the King’s procession enter the gates of Winterfell, she first sees the young Prince.  Blonde hair, blue eyes, good teeth.  Dreamy.

What would Sansa tweet to mark that moment forever!

H D T K J F I S (*Acronym)

Remember to stick to 80 characters or less.  Emojis count as 3 characters, so use them wisely.

Some rule highlights:

Spoiler

1.       The character count for our game is 80.  Every single character in a Tweet counts as one for the purposes of the character count. This includes not only letters and numbers, but also spaces and other punctuation.  Emojis will cost 3 from the character count.  That’s because you can say a lot with a wink ;-)

2.       Hashtags (#) are allowed. The “#” itself counts as 1 from your character count, but theoretically you are saving on spaces.  Each word in the hashtag must correspond to the letters in the acronym*.  (e.g. #TargaryensKickAss, uses acronym letters TKA, and has a character count of 18)

3.       Username ref (@) are allowed.  The “@” itself counts as 1 from your character count.  Each word in the username must correspond to the letters in the acronym*.  (e.g. @dragon_queen, uses acronym letters DQ, and has a character count of 13)

4.       Abbreviations are allowed and a list of acceptable values has been provided with the rules.  I can’t imagine that any would need to be added, but any additions will need to be approved by the host :blush:.  The first letter of the abbreviation must correspond with the acronym, but the whole abbreviation is counted for characters.  (e.g. WTF requires a W in the acronym and counts as 3 characters)

Clear as mud?

Ping me directly with any questions and I will try as best I can to answer them swiftly.

You can say a lot in 80 bytes.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with.  Good luck one and all!

Deadline: Monday, September 12, 8pm BST.

I have decided to add  bonus points.  Cause I'm the host and I say so :D #drunkwithpower

  • 2 points each round for being the first to submit, 1 point for 2nd and third.  No bonus points for stragglers.
  • 2 points each round for the entry using the least number of characters. Because tweets are supposed to be short and sweet.

Okay, one quick question. Where did the 80 character limit come from?

140 was too long and not a challenge. I averaged out the lengths of the prophesies from the last game and it seemed like 80 was the right number for 8-10 letter acronyms (average 6 characters per word plus punctuation)

does that make sense?
