The Song of Freedom

Essos has Free Cities, amongst these Braavos seems to be the most democratic (no slavery, democratic election of the Sealord, no inheritance of titles via blood line, freedom of opinion exists).

Westeros is a rotten monarchy, awaiting its doom.

A doom that can only be avoided by abandoning the existing political system - all claimants to a throne must renounce to all their claims. That will be the "bittersweet ending", because also characters/houses we may hold dear (like the Starks) will be concerned.

The magic around (Dragons, The Others) reflects the base of power on which the houses dwell: The lineage of the houses, culminating in the Targaryens incest to keep their blood line pure - what else than "magic"-talk is this thinking of blood lineage?

The Wall in the North is not the only wall in Westeros:

there are walls separating the houses from each other due to hatred/feuds etc.

and there are walls keeping the common people away from the richess of the Lords.

The old world is represented by Sansa - the new one by Arya (who happens to be for already some time in Braavos).

Arya never gave a shit on being high born - for Sansa it is fundamental to her life.

The Others, the Dragons, the wall and all those kings will disappear, together with those who will not be able to adapt.
