Anyone else find that abomination of a town hall absolutely chilling?  And/ or are apoplectically furious at the GOP for inflicting this vile cheez whiz pol pot on us?

On the flip side, this is a thing now #MuslimsReportingThings

And if anyone has a better title suggestion, I'd be happy to change it.

It's a bit complicated, Scott. I am somewhat academic, and I can write when need be, but the shortest honest answer is that I've pretty much lived off of being attractive most of my adult life, one way or another.

Well, I've been furious with the GOP for a while now. As for them inflicting the Trumpster on us, well yeah, of course. But, it's gonna be one hell of a hoot to watch Trump implode and take the GOP down with him.

Anyway, I am surprised that the polling is tending to show that Clinton won the debate. I wasn't particularly impressed by either candidate's performance last night.

I suspect a large part of that is that in the absence of a really obvious winner, people said whoever they support was the winner, and right now Clinton has a lot more supporters than Trump.

Which means even if the debate didn't bring anyone new over to Clinton, it also didn't help Trump at all. Although, because we still don't even have any post-leaked tape polls (the lopsided polls released over the weekend were conducted before Friday), it'll be impossible to say what effect the tape had vs. what effect the debate had.

The two big questions going forward are: Will the debate overshadow the tape at this point, or does it still have some news cycles left to it? (I'm leaning towards the media isn't past it yet, even if it didn't get talked about much in the debate). And, what happens after the House GOP call this morning, are they going to abandon Trump wholesale or was his debate performance just good enough that it would infuriate their base too much to leave him?

I thought Trump pretty clearly lost (more so than Clinton "won"), but I was nervous that people would misinterpret his assaults on reality, the English language, and his threatening posturing as "strong."  So I'm relieved we haven't disgraced ourselves that badly yet.

I've been trying to think through what might have turned that into a real win for her rather than a Trump loss, and I'm honestly kind of at a loss.   Is there really any way to engage someone who is going that far off the rails and that despicably low, and come off looking better for it?   How do you actively win that?

This probably right. Either way, it's a relief as Trump wasn't able to reverse the trend.

Oh yeah, Trump was spewing bullshit. He doesn't have a clue on many major area of policy, other than the usual GOP talking points ie allow insurance to be brought across state lines, cut taxes for the wealthy and watch growth take off, deregulate, etc. etc. etc.

But, a lot of people might buy into that bull, if Trump was able to make it look somewhat credible. On that score, I don't' think he did too terrible, or at least as not as badly as I thought.

I too worried about the "looking" strong thing. A lot of people might buy into that, without realizing that Trump is incompetent. With Trump their isn't some sort of GRRM "bad man, good king" thing going on. He's terrible and incompetent.

For me, I think needling him more about policy specifics and calling out his bullshit, rather than just saying, "go to my website." I mean I guess I can kind of understand her reasoning there, which was: I can't possible refute all the bullshit in the time we have. Still, I would have liked her to needle him a bit more on some of his claims.

Trump tried to convince us that his 'grabbing them by the p*ssy' was 'just words' then proceed to stalk Clinton around the stage several times while she was speaking.  I guess stalking is 'just walking' and not the threat it seemed, then?

Clinton would likely be losing to almost any other Republican candidate. Trump is an embarrassment to the country, but still a gift to liberals.

He may be a gift to liberals, but he is not the gift to women he thinks he is!      :ack:
