I read them the first time I read LotR in both Serbian and English, but skipped them rather enthusiastically on rereads.
Ser Scot A Ellison
I like the poems. In the unabridged audiobooks the reader sings most of them... rather well.
Lord Varys
I really came to like a lot of the songs and poems during rereads, after reading the other stuff. The Tolkien Ensemble also helped greatly with that. But back when I first read the book I was pretty pissed about reading about this seafarer who had no connection to the story. TheRevanchist
I really loved Aragorn's poem. All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king. PetrusOctavianus
I like it when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimil sights Gondor in the distance, and Aragorn thrusts out his nipples and starts proclaiming his "Ode to Gondor".
