Got another rejection for my 9000 word sword and sorcery novelette. It's a problematic one, since there are comparatively few genre=appropriate markets for stories of that length.

Do you guys have a number of pots on the stove - perhaps using some other writing outlet to try and engage an audience, even as you wait for the publisher pot to boil?

For me, the hardest part of writing isn't the actual writing itself but the promotion. So much of it depends on being able to get to the right online audience these days. I've had some luck forging friendships with bloggers and promoters so they're willing to add me to their interviews and so on but it's still hard.

I got this interview by sheer luck, though, and recommend Our Epic Worlds if you are epic fantasy or sci-fi.

Requesting suggestions on engaging editing review for the occasional blog post. Typically 800 - 1200 words about business leadership/management stuff. The content will be viewed by a potentially broad audience so I'd like to get the text some copy editing prior to posting.

I am envisioning that there exists a community of starving English majors out there, with sandwich boards reading 'Will copy edit for food' but I don't have any way to connect with them. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Rats, they want a word count under 90K. I had to kill a lot of darlings to get under 120K and I don't think the piece could withstand any more carnage. Nonetheless, thanks for posting and good luck to anyone who sends in a submission.

Interesting post on reddit from fantasy author Michael J Sullivan about big-5 publishers demanding audio rights be included in any contract or no deal; while he gets an audio only contract from an audio book studio 3 times the advance amount offered by one of those big-5.

Want to share that I've found a decent solution via UpWork which is an online portal to connect with freelance talent in a number of arenas. Quality will vary I'm sure.
