Is there or could there be an instance of a beloved character turning into a hated villain?

There are many characters in fiction that follow this trend, they start of as beloved heroes and towards the end their former fans start praying for their death: lelouch, light yagami, walter white, darth vader(okay we cheered for him) and many others. Could you see any characters following this arc?

Could it be dany?

There is every hint at her becoming a bloodthirsty tyrant, she has the targ blood, she crucified the masters and is increasingly becoming cruel and cynical due to betrayals.

Her betrayals could actually be an instance of self-fulfilling prophecy like cersei's where her own paranoia drives the betrayal, it could follow in macbethian fashion. I can certainly seeing her becoming aerys 2.0, always suspicious, cruel, vindictive and self-absorbed.

Stannis? He's also very strongly hinted to be a future villain. He could very well be the night's king. After all in the show he burns shireen. This could be seen in the book as well and stannis could become the new night's king.

Sansa? she completes her 180 degree from victim to tormentor. I can see her becoming a new cersei or a tyana of the tower. Perhaps she'll kill SR, LF and manipulate harry. Perhaps she'll becoming a temptress.  There are some allusions to it, its what LF wants her to be

Thread closed, with a reminder about our rule on this issue:

As the show goes out, we want to be clear on our policy regarding spoilers for the benefit of all users.

We understand that developments in the TV show may or may not turn out to be relevant to the plot of future books. Accordingly, they may or may not be spoilers for future books. Our policy on this is precautionary and is an extension of our existing policy on show/book discussion. Discussion of the show should go in the show forums: this includes discussion of plot points from the series, and whether they tell us anything about the future direction of the books.

At the same time we recognise that there are users who are not watching the series and prefer to remain unspoiled. This may or may not prove possible in the long run, but we prefer not to make it any harder.

This means that no show spoilers of any kind should be posted in the book forums. No hints, no speculation, nothing. Any breach of that rule will result in a suspension: no excuses and no exceptions.
