zelticgar
One of my friends on FB just reposted a video from what I believe is Gaitlinburg, TN. Absolutely terrifying video. I guess they made it out but it looked really bad. Caught in the middle of a wildfire on a mountain with no warning.
Ser Scot A Ellison
Wow. I can't imagine trying to drive out through that.
Dr. Pepper
I'm just in such shock watching the coverage of Gatlinburg burning. It's one of my favorite places in the world. Watching videos of the people trying to escape the quickly spreading fires is just horrifying.
Greg
Last night I the sky to my southwest glowed orange. It's not just Gatlinburg, but parts of Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. My family is safe, but some of my co-workers and friends are not. One even evacuated last night, returned to her home, and had to flee again a few hours ago. It's terrifying.
Ser Scot A Ellison
Greg, It rained here yesterday. Please tell me y'all are getting some rain too.
Dr. Pepper
A friend of mine who lives near Gatlinburg was evacuated and finally posted on fb. She says that the news coverage isn't even showing the full extent of how horrible it is right now, I assume because they can't get in close enough to document. It looks like rain will be coming through there starting today, so so hopeful that it helps calm the blazes.
Ded As Ned
Heavy rain moving through that area now... rained here all night so hopefully finished off the local fires that fired back up in the wind Monday. Although the ones in my part of KY are nothing compared to those in the Smokies.
Ferrum Aeternum
3 confirmed dead thus far, and news here in Memphis is reporting that a local couple who were vacationing in the Gatlinburg area with family are missing. Just an awful situation. Hopefully the rain will extinguish the worst of the fires.
Greg
Adam, We got some rain, but not enough. We need several more days of this to make a difference.
