How would I know it's the CPU?

Systematically test it: remove one component and see if the system boots up, then the next one etc. until you've isolated the problem.

If none of the suggested parts does it try the RAM. If the problem still persists at that point it might be that the motherboard needs replacing.

It does sound like it's probably the motherboard. However before you go for a new one I'd tear the whole thing apart and reseat everything. It's possible you've just knocked a cable / component out of place and while you were screwing around in there. So pull everything out including all the cables to the PSU, and see if anything will come up with the bare minimum connected (ie PSU, GPU (if there's no integrated on your mobo), CPU and RAM).

It's surprising how often I've seen old PCs boot after doing that.

OK, from the moment I turn on the PC I press the Del key which is the common key to press for Gigabyte motherboards to access the BIOS. Nothing happens, though I can hear a sound from the CPU every time I press the key. I've tried both holding the button, and clicking the shit out of it. The PC takes about 2 minutes to get past the motherboard logo, then nothing. Even before when I could still access Windows, that motherboard logo time was still the same. I also tried the same with the F12 key which should let me open the boot menu, and the results are the same. I also switched my keyboard to a different USB port in case the one I was using was defective. Same results.

I pulled the battery from the motherboard to try to reset it to factory settings. Implicitly this involved the pulling out of the GPU 'cause naturally the battery was behind it. Same results.

They will not be available, but most sequels at least try to let you be able to jump in and play without having to play the first.  Kind of limits your audience a bit.

Anything that focuses on Joel and Ellie will pretty much require that you play the first.

:dunno:

Huh? The first game is on both PS3 and PS4. The second game will be PS4 only, presumably.

Phone related typo.  Meant to say the game "will be available."

Still have yet to delve too deeply into FFXV.

I spent about 5 hours late last night working on my FemShep playthrough of ME1.  What I have learned is that I am not cut out for the jerk/villain type gaming decisions.  It came time to free/kill the Rachni queen... I did it, but it took every ounce of determination.  Question about the infected civilians on Feros?  Couldn't do it.  Used the gas instead of killing them.  I'm justifying it by trying to have her put humans first in decisions.

My initial thoughts were that I would try to play her as a xenophobic asshole, but dammit... Wrex and Garrus are just too awesome to either ditch or just leave on the ship.

I just play the way I think I'd be if I was a total badass. Comes out relatively renegade enough.

WELL DAMN, it was my GPU. I pulled out the graphics card, turned my computer on, and went into my bios. Now what to do. The card worked fine before in terms of doing stuff in Windows. It just messed up the bios for some reason. Frantic online searches to commence.

Update: Got it fixed. I had to update the motherboard BIOS to work better with the graphics card. The SSD is installed and is making everything super fast, so I am ready for Mass Effect ANDROMEDA!!!

Not really a problem for TLOU. Apparently between PS3 and PS4 TLOU sold upwards of 10 million. Though lots of the sales on PS4 will be PS3 owners who re-bought the game. But still, I don't see TLOU 2 having a problem selling plenty of units; assuming it's close to being as good as TLOU, which should be a fairly safe assumption with Naughty Dog.

But they could do one of those motion comic things along the lines of the Mass Effect motion comic Bioware released when ME2 was put onto PS3, since EA was contractually prevented at the time from releasing ME on PS3. Still not quite sure how EA managed to wangle being able to release ME on PS3 as part of the ME trilogy and as a stand alone download. Must have been a loophole in the publishing agreement that didn't prevent electronic distribution or inclusion in an multi-game set. Lucky for me I guess.

How I'm playing it too.

My guess is also that Joel dies in this game. A TLOU3 could involve Ellie finding the love of a good woman. Though are gay relationships an indulgence that post apocalyptic societies can't really afford to accommodate? What with the need to procreate being some what more of an existential necessity than it is in a pre-apocalyptic setting.

Joel seems like he'll be in mentor-mode, so I wouldn't be surprised if he died either.

I get the impression Ellie won't be a community-oriented person in this game, so I don't think she'll care about needing to procreate.

I've been playing Cities: Skylines. It's pretty good, scratches that city-building itch. It's more in-depth than something like Tropico but it's not quite as insanely detailed and pedantic as SimCity 4 could be. The biggest problem with it is that it's very much all about building the city and infrastructure (and particularly routing traffic properly, get that wrong and things can go south very quickly). There's really not much actual "city management" of the economy or addressing particular issues going on.

The ratio of population to some facilities also seems way off. My city of 48,000 really shouldn't need 12 high schools, 16 infant schools, 2 universities, 4 massive hospitals and a fire department on every corner.

It's fun. There isn't a huge amount of depth to it, but it was worth the £7 I paid for it in a Steam sale.

In the next election cycle...

[Deep announcer voice]

Mayor Werthead doesn't support education... denying children the skills they need to succeed.  Mayor Werthead doesn't support first responders... denying those who sacrifice for us a decent living.  Mayor Werthead wants to close hospitals... denying senior citizens access to care they need.

Mayor Werthead... Weak on education.  Unsafe communities.  Takes from our seniors.

He's no good for Skyline City..

I don't see why a need to procreate would make gay relationships an issue. Gay couples can raise kids too (Not that I think you meant anything to the contrary).

Even if we assume that any and all methods of artificial insemination are off the table for some reason, there's still no reason Breeders A & B would have to remain together after they'd done their Apocalyptic Societal Duty if they didn't want to.

But the idea of mandated, utilitarian sex between people who aren't attracted to each other is not one I care to explore much :stillsick:

I saw one person's video who thinks Joel is actually already dead and Ellie is hallucinating him. That would be an interesting approach. Not sure that will be what they do though. Still, with Ellie being the playable character I don't see it as being the same sort of buddy/escort style game as TLOU. More likely to be Ellie solo most of the time and a few sections where she has a companion.

The theme of the story is hate, according to Druckman, so I certainly think that for the majority of the game Ellie will be in a psychological downward spiral of an ever widening circle of hate, which will make her more and more of a loner. So for her personally procreation won't be on her agenda. But for communities themselves procreation will be an important issue. It would be interesting to explore what attitudes would evolve around non-procreative sexual relationships when human society is on the brink of extinction. While unlikely to be viewed as immoral in essence, it could start to be viewed as selfish in a world where selfishness actually poses an existential threat to the species, and thus socially undesirable.

People think that in the zombie apocalypse every person for themselves would become a prevalent attitude. But assuming most people would want to keep the species going, communalism and cooperation is what's needed.
