Help Me Become Lord of the Crossing

Recommended Posts

I'm not in the line of succession but I deserve to inherit the Twins.  I want to hire you to advise me.

  1. Become Lord of the Crossing
  2. Do this without hurting the family too much; avoid the destruction of property
  3. Minimize the casualty
  4. Rebuild our reputation after the Red Wedding
  5. What to do with River Run
  6. What to do about the pesky Brotherhood fanatics
  7. Last but not least, our goal always, increase the family treasury

Tell me what I need to do and you can get a few hundred acres of fertile farm lands and become a minor lord under me.  You can marry any Frey you choose.

An impossible task unless your down with kin slaying which is of course hurting the family and there is no return from the red wedding no other house will ever trust the Freys again and many lords would rather remove there cock with a hot dagger before marrying there daughters into house frey.

Tell me what I need to do and you can get a few hundred acres of fertile farm lands and become a minor lord under me.  You can marry any Frey you choose.

1.) betroth or marry your daughters to the Frey subhouses below yours in the line of succession: Wendel (from Annara Faring), your nephews Big Walder and Hoster, and possibly Perwyn Frey from the Rosby Freys if they'll go for it. You've now built alliances among multiple junior Frey houses and their connections (if Perwyn is the ever-mysterious Rosby Ward, this could come in handy, or if you can convince Perwyn to get Olyvar to support you - unlikely though it may be).

2.) Avoid attending weddings in the Riverlands. In fact, avoid attending weddings that aren't organized by you.

3.) Patience, patience, patience. Lord Walder will die, but before that your rivals are dropping like flies. If you can't get the Rosby Freys on board, try promising your daughters to one of the other more senior Freys for their second/third sons. They'll assume you're just trying to buy safety and signal your support. Whatever you do, don't become too entangled to anyone above you that you aren't prepared to kill. Be prepared to usurp your daughter and her family. You need to bide your time - there may well be many lords in quick succession. As long as you have the support of one of the more prominent Frey groups you can remain in the Twins, safe.

4.) Let Emmon have Riverrun. If the Riverlords take their wedding vengeance, try and convince some other senior Freys to pursue a claim there - perhaps the same bunch you marry in to.

5.) fabricate documents implicating other Freys, Tywin Lannister, etc., in the Red Wedding. Invent some leverage they had on you and quietly slip these to the BWB, perhaps secreting them on someone you trust and sacrifice to escort a doomed Frey party out. You want the BWB to believe that you were just a functionary trying to protect your daughters - ideally, they will then believe any Freys who rat you out are just doing so for their own protection and political concerns.

6.) Hire, bribe, or ingratiate yourself with a military force. Wait until all the best claimants ahead of you are young or women. Take power as "castellan" and eventually Lord.

7.) Return law and order to your part of the riverlands. Spend money to win over the common people. Use them to find the BWB and kill them all. Make sure to pin them for the deaths of any ahead of you.

8.) Wait until Spring to try and make money again.

1 - Don't leave the castle.  Keep away from the trails where the BWB can ambush you.

2 - Use patience, the guys ahead of you as they get killed.

3 - Use marriage to build alliances with other Freys and outside the family.

4 - Take out a contract on the BWB and send bounty hunters after them.

5 - Bribe the iron throne and let the ruler change the line of succession and put you ahead of any remaining sons.

6 - Give River's Run to the most loyal to you.

7 - Keep the family on good behavior and treat the small folk generously.

8 - Get the political situation stabilized and capture the brotherhood.  War is bad for business.  Get people trading again to collect more toll.

Happy to help. But first...please define what constitutes hurting the family "too much."

I'd say all key players in the Red Wedding have offended gods and man and should be handed over to justice of one kind or another. If you're a member of the family (legitimate or not) you would not want to execute them yourselves. Since most of them are the power players and blood spillers, your path to the Lordship will be made easier by this entirely understandable, and even necessary course of action.

I gree with Horse of Kent, it is the only way, mate.

As for the reputation, don't expect the steam to be washed away, that will forever leave a scar.

I was thinking along the same lines. Though in my variation, you'd go whoring around essos instead. Make their version of the eight or whatever
