The WolfSpider
Is it me or was their sigil changed a while back. I could've swore it was a shower of pebbles. I remember thinking that it seemed like a warning or beginning of an avalanche which seemed wholly appropriate to the landscape . Was it changed because it gave too much away? https://www.google.com/search?q=house+royce+of+runestone&client=ms-android-att-us&prmd=ivsn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjW8tKUu_DRAhWK6SYKHbtvBs8Q_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=560#imgrc=CsSTOXOMCKTj1M: That is an image of their old sigil

Maybe the author looked at some other drawing of Royce sigil and assumed those black circles are stones/pebbles. Sigil of Royces (Runestone branch) was always: 'Black iron studs on a bronze field, bordered with runes' (Bronze pelleté, an orle of ancient runes sable). The WolfSpider
It's not just the creator of that image, there are others like it that are most definitely not iron studs. Also like I said I remember reading it years ago. I only found that image when looking for corroborating evidence.
Philokles
It seemingly has changed. The wiki goes from describing the sigil as "a shower of pebbles on an orange field" to "black iron studs on bronze, bordered with runes" in October 2013. direpupy
The royce sigil is never discribed in the books it comes from semi canon sources, so it is possible that GRRM simply changed his mind on what he wanted it to look like.
direpupy
I just remembered that there is a depiction of the Royce sigil in TWOIAF so i guess the sigil with the iron studs is canon now.

Thank you for vindication It seems to me that whatever it is that they "Remember" will be the beginning of a veritable avalanche.
The WolfSpider
And if so I can see why GRRM would feel it necessary to change it. I guess. It puts all eyes on House Royce.
The hairy bear
I'm certain that the banner of House Royce has never changed. The original source we had for the banners not described in the novels, such as House Royce, were the depictions made by Ran and Linda at the Citadel based on the descriptions George sent them. In the Citadel, the Royce banner has always been blazoned as " Black iron studs on bronze, bordered with rune". This has been there at least since 2001, and I would say that even some time before. The article from the wiki was created in 2007. Probably it's just that someone misinterpreted the Citadel's rendition and wrote a wrong description of it. Fortunately, it has been corrected. The WolfSpider
Well it's not sexy, which may be best coming from the hairy bear, but it does sound certain. Frankly a shower of pebbles seems much more appropriate for a Vale house and sexier. Black studs on bronze sounds like a take on House Oakenshield.....or a porn movie. Grumble Grumble. Thank you for the info though Bear
Daendrew
Someone on reddit translated the runes: "https://imgur.com/0evd45s This is the Royce rune pattern on Bronze Yohn's cloak in the show and armour in the books. A few years ago as something to do I taught myself the runic alphabet for old english. Starting at the top right corner and going clockwise it seems to say in modern english just written phonetically in runes: Run before your blood runs" https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/4jxr8g/spoilers_everything_bronze_yohn_royce_rune/
