To be sure, the premise that there are two legitimate sides to this debate is itself a major point of contention. Anti-fascist activists—or antifa—believe that white supremacists should be denied a platform by any means necessary, and many of the black-clad demonstrators noted that it was critical to keep such dangerous ideologies out of the mainstream in the coming years.

While McInnes rejects the white supremacist descriptor, his comments made in recent articles for Taki's Magazine include suggesting Muslims are “more violent” due to inbreeding, referring to Asians as “slopes,” and defending the use of the N-word. He’s also written for VDARE.com, which the Southern Poverty Law Center identifies as a "White Nationalist" hate group. For many in the crowd, the ideology espoused by McInnes and his fan-club qualified as white supremacy, regardless of what the group preferred to call themselve

Awww, does being told your views are shared by neo-Nazis offend you?

But this conflation is dangerous! Sargon=Nazis, Trump=Nazis, Milo Yiannopoulos=Nazis....and the SJW's riot like crazed barbarians, heroes of the left taking a stand against the 'Nazis'.

So...a federal court judge in Washington state has halted Trump's travel ban nationwide.

it will be appealed, but as of this moment nationwide the ban is stayed.

And Trump has gone to Florida, and there is no AG confirmed yet. The order will have to be studied and a challenge drawn up. Who knows, maybe the Justice Department will be ordered to stay up the next 48 hours and file an appeal ASAP.

This is the same thing Republicans did to Obama last fall, when application was made to the federal court in Texas to strike down his executive order on immigration.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but I came across an article about Milo that I feel hit the nail right on the head. Well written little piece by a blogger who Milo considers a friend. Really interesting take on Professional Political Troll culture.

That is an interesting article. I feel a bit sorry for the writer -- she appears to believe her own propaganda whereas practically all of the other people in the article know that they're playing a game and don't take it to heart.

I'm in awe. It's like a mad-lib.

To be fair, it almost makes sense: if you take out the word "Marxist", you get something plausible (or at least something that has been used in the settings of science fiction novels and games).

The Proud Boys . . . .

I just saw an article about this:

Quote

Meanwhile, a woman claiming to be a professor—presumably at NYU, though this detail is unconfirmed—screamed at the police for not engaging in violence against McInnes and his followers (the so-called "Proud Boys"). Her tirade was captured on video. Watch below, starting at the 10:20 mark:

"You are fucking assholes!" the professor shouted at the New York Police Department (NYPD). "You're protecting the Nazis!"

The NYPD had arrived on the scene to prevent violence and escort McInnes out of the building safely. But the professor seemed to think the cops' job was to shut down a speaker she didn't like—by engaging in explicit violence against him.

"You should kick their ass!" the professor declared, referring to McInnes and his entourage. "You should!"

Note that the professor—a dead ringer for Melissa Click, by the way—considered violence to be beneath her and her owns students.

"These are kids who are trying to learn about humanity!" she said. "They're trying to learn about human rights and against racism and xenophobia, and LGBTQ rights, and you're letting these fucking neo-nazis near here! It's not up to these students to kick the ass of a neo-nazi! They don't have to raise their fist! They were taught to be peaceful! Fuck you!"

So according to the professor, it's college students' job to contemplate humanity and practice tolerance, and it's the cops' job to beat up people with whom the left disagrees.

To be fair, there's no guarantee that the woman is actually a professor -- it could simply be a deranged individual in which case the rant would be sad rather than amusing.

CNN has just received a press release from the White House stating they will apply for an emergency stay of the temporary order, based on their argument that the President has the power to control the country's borders in order to protect the country.

Will Trump have to prove a threat given no refugees from those countries has committed a terrorist act?

I have been ducking in and out of the room, so I have not heard everything, but they literally got the press release and I typed up the post.  They have quite a panel and I assume they will be discussing what happens next. Apparently there was an attempt to get a judge to overturn the executive order in Massachusetts which failed, so there are now contradictory orders out there. Alan Dershowitz was concerned that the WH might try to ignore the Washington state order by saying they would follow the Massachusetts order, but they will fight the 'outrageous' Washington order.

UPDATE: new press release, taking out the word outrageous, meaning somebody said you don't tell a federal judge his order is outrageous. They said they will appeal the order ASAP.

I bet Trump has steam coming out of his ears.

Dershowitz says they should appeal to the 9th Circuit first, and the WH can demand immediate action. The US Supreme Court would be reluctant to hear the appeal without the 9th Circuit hearing an appeal first.

I think the challenge will be on constitutional grounds: does the President have the power to make the order.

ETA: Dershowitz suggests that it could move very fast, and be before the SC by Sunday.

You feel bad for her? At least she has some integrity.

If there's anything but cynical situational bullshit as a means of countering obvious arguments, this ought to outrage many pro-gun types I've seen internetting in the wake of White Male Spree Shooting X. Let's see how it goes.
