Conway later corrected that she was referring to this story of Al Qaeda terrorists in Kentucky from Iraq who snuck into the US via the refugee program.

Several dozen suspected terrorist bombmakers, including some believed to have targeted American troops, may have mistakenly been allowed to move to the United States as war refugees, according to FBI agents investigating the remnants of roadside bombs recovered from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The discovery in 2009 of two al Qaeda-Iraq terrorists living as refugees in Bowling Green, Kentucky -- who later admitted in court that they'd attacked U.S. soldiers in Iraq -- prompted the bureau to assign hundreds of specialists to an around-the-clock effort aimed at checking its archive of 100,000 improvised explosive devices collected in the war zones, known as IEDs, for other suspected terrorists' fingerprints.

"We are currently supporting dozens of current counter-terrorism investigations like that," FBI Agent Gregory Carl, director of the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC), said in an ABC News interview to be broadcast tonight on ABC News' "World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Nightline".

"I wouldn't be surprised if there were many more than that," said House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul. "And these are trained terrorists in the art of bombmaking that are inside the United States; and quite frankly, from a homeland security perspective, that really concerns me."

As a result of the Kentucky case, the State Department stopped processing Iraq refugees for six months in 2011, federal officials told ABC News – even for many who had heroically helped U.S. forces as interpreters and intelligence assets. One Iraqi who had aided American troops was assassinated before his refugee application could be processed, because of the immigration delays, two U.S. officials said. In 2011, fewer than 10,000 Iraqis were resettled as refugees in the U.S., half the number from the year before, State Department statistics show.

point is, they are just delaying tactics, they won't achieve a desired outcome

Fair enough.

There is a lot the Democrats probably won't be able stop.

With the Republicans in control of everything and all.

Let's see how the country likes it. Let er rip.

More than 10 million people traveled to the U.S. on a visa in 2015—including immigrants and nonimmigrants—while tens of millions visited the United States without a visa. The section calls for the secretary of state, secretary of homeland security, director of national intelligence and FBI director to develop a “uniform screening standard and procedure” for all of them. That could slow travel to the U.S. to a crawl

The little-noticed bombshell in Trump's immigration order
The travel ban got all the headlines, but experts are realizing another provision could clamp down on normal tourism and even diplomats.

We know the story. But there are some clear differences between what Obama did, what Trump did and what Conway actually said.

1. It was not a massacre. The two bomb makers were arrested and no one was injured or killed.

2. After they arrested them, they slowed down the refugee process from Iraq, beefed up the vetting process and resumed normal refugee screening / resettlement. While there was a slow down for 6 months from Iraq, people still were allowed into the US, including people who helped American military, 100k visas weren't canceled, they didn't force people to sign away their green cards and they didn't systematically ban millions of people from multiple countries

3. The slow down was a response to a specific threat which lead to increased vetting. There is no intelligence of a threat and we haven't had a death due to a refugee since 1980. This was simply Trump saying Muslims from those countries are not allowed in this country and nothing more.

So yea, the story is interesting but the response from the Obama administration was appropriate, the increased vetting normal and the lack of any other issue since then a testament to the work they did. And Conway saying massacre was on purpose since no one gives a shit about retractions, only the initial comment on national TV.

Damn those activist judges....

Quote

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's government moved swiftly Saturday to comply with a federal judge's order halting his immigration ban -- even as Trump denounced the judge.

The Department of Homeland Security announced it has suspended all actions to implement the immigration order and will resume standard inspections of travelers as it did prior to the signing of the travel ban.

I saw that this morning as well. To me this is the big win and has made me feel immensely better. As I'm sure you all know I think the policy moves made by Trump and the Republicans are disastrous, and possibly unconstitutional in some cases. But creating bad policy is a far cry from attempting to overthrow the government, and I've been sincerely worried this past week that that might be happening.

Totally common mistake. I often say "I bet it’s brand-new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized, and were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green Massacre. Most people don’t know that because it didn’t get covered", when I really just mean two Iraqi terrorists were arrested. Everyone does that right?

I wouldn't stop worrying about that part yet. We're a couple weeks in, and if the administration wants to continue upending traditions and common decency at the expense of minorities etc. (which they have to sooner or later, in order to please the base), then we're going to see more of these stand-offs. And the administration can't afford losing too many of those, given that they've built their house of cards on a strongman image.

I, too, feel more relieved now than a week ago, but that has a lot less to do with the administration's apparennt intentions and limits, and more with the level of resistance that seems to be cropping up all over the place.

Wow, how bigly of her for taking absolutely zero ownership over completely and blatantly lying on national television (again).

No, the massacre is totally real, and I'm writing a wiki article on it as we speak:

Quote

The Bowling Green Massacre occurred on August 32 2016, when infamous Deash member Abu Hajaar aka “the clumsy terrorist” was taking a stroll somewhere in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but then tripped and fell over an anthill, crushing, and killing thousands of innocent ants and leaving thousands more homeless. Despite the horrific nature of the event, it was at first covered up by the Obama administration and the liberal media in order to prevent human-ant animosity, but on February 2 2017, Counselor to the new President Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway, opened the lid on the horrible tragedy.[citation needed]

Well, I try.

This.

People ask "what do the Dems need to do" and perhaps there are some things. But it's mainly about waiting for those in power to fuck up.

Decisions, events, and outcomes matter more than arguments.

That being said, I would advise the Dems to make Howard Dean head of the DNC and follow what he and Rahm did as far as candidate recruitment in 2006. But they don't seem to be doing that.

The homeless ants, where were they resettled?  All those ant refugees, I'm sure the current administration will work hard to find homes for the ants who were victims of this terrible hate crime to heal and move on with their lives.   :crying:
