Well yeah, and a lot of people believed Obama ruined the country and believed Obamacare would force elderly people to appear before death panels. Neither of those beliefs are objectively true. So belief is a terrible metric by which to measure the actual sub-population who have been or will be harmed by any particular policy or economic system.

Obviously nobody can predict the future so it is impossible to evaluate whether the next generation will be better off or worse off. However, everyone must make decisions based on what they think will happen so perception of the future is an important metric (if not necessarily an accurate one).

Just curious Altherion, at this point how is this guy passing the eye test for you? Like this press conference today. That sort of thing doesn't disturb you at all? Are you not sensing a lack of competence at this point that has become at least a touch worrisome?

He hasn't done anything important yet. I thought the press conference was a well-executed continuation of his campaign strategy (the same is true for the inaugural address). He figured out that nearly all of his supporters as well as a majority of the overall population do not trust the media so he is attacking them every time they meet. I am fine with his position on Russia and I'm taking a wait and see approach to his cabinet -- it's not exactly heartening that the Treasury pick is another Goldman Sachs employee, but some fraction of aristocrats is usually in favor of reform so it might be be too bad.

The problem I have with people that voted for Trump over globalism and neo-liberalism is: Just how in the how do they expect Trump to make things better?

Aye, there's the rub. Trump did a great job of pointing out quite a few problems, but it's not at all obvious that he has any intention of fixing them or, even if he does, that it is possible for him to do so. Still, the alternative was a consummate neoliberal so depending on how one feels about risk, it might make sense to gamble on Trump.

You'd be better off getting really shit faced drunk and then playing craps in some shady casino run by the mob.
