Han Solo Movie Cast First Shot

Bit late to the party but .... damn, not getting any Han Solo vibes from this guy at all. He doesn’t really look like him, sound like him, his whole rhythm of speaking is different. The movie could still be good but I think it’s just gonna be super distracting trying to imagine this as a young Han. I had to look up the ages, Ford was 35 in A New Hope but I think he looked pretty good for it. He could easily have passed for 28, which is how old Ehrenreich is. Maybe that’s part of the problem, I don’t see any age difference between the two. Maybe they should have gone with an early twenties actor playing a teenager?

I am really looking forward to this one as every single announcement has me more and more assured that they are going to nail this. I am also hearing rumors that the script has been called the best Star Wars script written to this point.

The one thing I really want though is a curtain call from Harrison Ford in this movie. If I were writing this, it would open and close with Han telling the story to a young Ben as he looks lovingly up to his father.

Not sure about the first paragraph but that second one is a killer. If they haven't done that, they'll have missed a trick. Given Ford was apparently giving Alden some tips. Maybe while on a set visit?

True. They picked someone who does not remind of Han Solo.

Still, I'm giving this film a chance and hope it might be good. I'm expecting right now that it may level out as a mid-tier SW film a la Rogue One, meaning, a few solid sequences but possibly some very irritating characters that you at no point give a shit about.

I'll be very disappointed if they can't make me give a shit about Han and Lando (especially with Glover playing him). The new characters - maybe not but again I'd put that down to the script and directing if Harrelson and Thandie Newton can't deliver. Although I felt that happened in Rogue One where the actors weren't to blame for my lack of caring about the characters.

I just hope the spin offs aren't always going to be stuck in the past (unless it's so far in the past it's untrod ground). Although I'm going to instantly eat my own words and say I'd watch a Obi Wan film - but only if it was covering stuff we don't know about from episode 3-4.

The spin offs like Rogue One and maybe this Han Solo film are not that exciting to me, but I am very interested in the new series of films by Rian Johnson and D&D. Just depends on what they decide to focus on.

Agreed. It feels like the spin-offs are filling in blanks no-one really needs to see filled. With the exception of "why the death start had such a weak point" the rest of the film was pretty easy to predict because the first few lines in episode IV told me everything i needed to know. Han Solo seems even more redundant unless they add something new that I never knew needed adding. Then again, I'm someone who generally really dislikes prequels and TV/Film's obsession about it. It just feels like nostalgia and I can never really understand why creators would limit themselves so much by doing a prequel (although maybe producers favour prequels for this very reason - as it constrains the creative talent from being too outlandish). I'm enjoying Star Trek Discovery but in all honesty I don't understand why they couldn't have just had the same type of story in a post DS9 setting - that way I wouldn't be wringing my hands over continuity issues and would have the suspense of not knowing how things have to eventually play out.

I do think Rian Johnson could make an excellent trilogy as he's not afraid to break new ground - which is exactly what Star Wars needs if they want to expand it into a 1+ movie a year franchise. Hopefully D&D will achieve something similar.

Yeah, that's exactly it. It looks awesome but I wish they had the confidence to just give us some unrelated character's doing basically the same shit set in that universe.

New Han is just distracting, so far.  I wonder if they ever considered hiring someone who could go a better Han impression to redo his lines.

When they first cast Alden Ehrenreich as Solo they had some in-make-up-and-costume stills of him that made him look startlingly like a young Harrison Ford, in the recent previews he looks nothing like a young Han Solo.

Rouge One was actually kinda more interesting that episode's 7 and 8, trouble was it was just a side spinner and I am not interested in seeing more of those. I have not been all that taken with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi ,  seem like retreads of episodes 4 and 5, but like them better than any episodes 1,2 and 3 (which I find painful to watch now).

I will skip this Solo deal and go to 9, after that my fun fatigue threshold for more Star Wars has been exceeded.

I'm in the minority on Rogue 1, I found it extremely dull, didn't care about any of the characters or the paper thin plot.

Any Solo prequel is a bad idea, but that prequel Solo looks to be only slightly younger that original Solo is a big problem, if they were going to do this new Solo needs to look like he's in his early, very early 20s. New solo is only 5 years younger than Harrison Ford was for the first movie

I know the thread title is referencing the first picture of the actors... but every time I read it I transpose the words in my mind to say “Han Solo Movie Cast Shot First” for obvious reasons. :P

I was just thinking this morning, once this is out on Blu-Ray someone will surely use this deepfake AI stuff to fix it so he has Harrison Ford's face. It really is quite impressive stuff. Shame it's mostly used for making creepy fake porn so far.

I am a huge Star Wars fan.  I have seen the movies, read nearly all the books (except for the newest stuff, haven't started on them yet) and loved most of them.  I even enjoy the Prequels for what they were.

Out of all the characters in the movies, books or video games my favorite character has always been Han Solo.  When we played as kids my friends always wanted to be jedi with the lightsabers (which are freaking awesome), but I wanted to be han.  I wanted the vest.  I wanted the ship.  I wanted the blaster.  When he was killed in Awakens, I was crushed (even though I saw it coming).  I had strangers come up to me and give me a hug in the theater because I was devastated (I'm a very emotional guy, sue me:P).

Having said all that, this Solo movie leaves me feeling, Meh.  I'll see it because it has the Star Wars aesthetic, but I'm not nearly as pumped for this as I was for Rogue one.  I just don't think they will tell the story very well and I fear they are going to try and cram easter eggs in it.  I'm nearly 100% sure there will be a scene with the Droids in it.

I'll see it that first Friday, but I have a bad feeling that it will be the first Star Wars movie that I just won't care to see again.

Lyrebird to give him Ford's voice as well... could be amusing.

That's one thing I was surprised by. The Falcon looked decades old, and must have been old when Solo inherited it from Lando. According to Lucas, it was canonically the Falcon itself (and not just another YT-1300) we saw in Revenge of the Sith, so the ship should be an absolute minimum of 20 years old in Ep 4 and probably more.

Having the ship look utterly brand-new just 9 or 10 years before Ep IV is...weird. What the hell did Han and Chewie do to it? I get they "modified" it a bit, but it looks like they rented it out as student digs for five years of solid partying at some point.

Ever since Lucas and the prequels the timeline has not made much sense for the SW films. I think Obi-wan is supposed to be in his 50s in ANH. smh

Yeah, I'm not going to hold it against anyone to ignore a fun easter egg.

While it was fun to look for and find the background ship in Ep III, I put on the same level of "canon" as the E.T. aliens being in the Senate. Fun, but nothing to tie the hands of future stories.

Given Alec Guinness was 62 when filming Star Wars, Obi Wan being 55 ish isn't that bad. Desert air and constant sunburns change a person yo.

Edit:  I don't mind the look of the Falcon, obviously Lando needs it looking fancy for his soirees.  What I do mind is the media's insistence on saying the movie "is where the young Han meets the young Chewbacca" except Chewie is like 200 years old at that point.

New Lego Millenium Falcon

1400 pieces, 170 bucks. I think the biggest set I ever got as a boy was one of the big Castle ones, at a garage sale for like 5 dollars (back in the late 80s), and I seem to recall it was like 1100 pieces. 1400 is pretty impressive. I wish I had a significant amount of disposable income, because I would love to build this thing.
