Football - Leicester's Shakespearean Tragedy

Starting to find Diego Costa's monthly discussion about what team he wants to join/tried to join obnoxious. The squad is having a great season and it seems like he can't wait to get out the door. 2/3 seasons with the club and he'll have 2 PL titles and most likely over 40 goals. You'd think the guy would be a little appreciative.

Why should he be 'appreciative', exactly? It's not as if Chelsea plucked him from obscurity. He had a Spanish title, a Copa del Rey victory and an appearance in the CL final under his belt at Atletico. Should he have been 'a little appreciative' and stayed there instead of going to Chelsea?

Eh, if we're picking at words perhaps I should've used respectful or class. Point being, shut up and enjoy the season. You look like a prat when you fuss about the current situation, and said situation is a mighty good one that will make Diego even more money, and get him another championship.

Lukaku might be on his level but, as Polish said, he's a different type of player. Notably he doesn't tend to work very hard when his side don't have the ball (in fairness I haven't watched a lot of Everton games this year so he might have improved on that front under Koeman).

He does work a little bit harder, but not noticably so, really. And he's a completely different player, so if Chelsea and Conte wants to replace Costa with like for like, he's out. Costa is a hard worker, strong in the hold-up play and a great poacher. Lukaku is strong, but weak in hold-up play, doesn't have the best poacher instincts, but can shoot with either foot and is fast. Also, good technique when running at people.

Also, since my browser now allows me to post again, I want to complain about us losing Coleman for .. well, who knows how long. Along with Lukaku (or, more correctly, second to Lukaku), he's the player we could least afford to lose. There is - literally - no replacement right back in the squad. And, for my money, Coleman is one of the best right backs in the PL - fast, good defensively (can be caught out), good attacking (mediocre crossing, good technique running at people, carries a goal threat) and with great stamina.

Wonder what will happen now - we could move to three centre backs, but our right midfielder will be inferior, or we could push Holgate or Jags out at right back, but neither are at Coleman's levels.

Sad that the fairies should injure him.

Wow. I just checked the squad list, and you guys really don't have a single other specialist right-back. Did not realise that. Holgate is probably the only option.

On another note: Ian Wright's grandson is in the England under-16 squad. His grandson. Yes, I feel old. But not as old as Ian Wright!

What we've also got is Matthew Pennington, who played a couple of games last season. He is nominally a centre back, though, and not better than Holgate. Jonjo Kenny is a right back, but not ready for the first team yet - think he's 18. So, yeah.. not ideal.

Baines would be about as bad, but Barry can actually do that job competently, btw.

Also, I'm feeling less old now that Ian Wright is officialy ancient.

Bloody international breaks.

Just when I had stopped ranting about the useless international breaks destroying the club season, they troll me once again.  Both of Lallana's injuries this season came on international duty.  Both times he played a friendly and a competitive match within a few days.

Messi has been suspended for four matches (out of five remaining) in the WC qualifiers. And now a C-list Argentina team is losing to Bolivia. They might actually not qualify on this one.

Slightly ridiculous that the country of Messi, Higuain, Aguero, Dybala and Icardi has ended up with Angel Correa and Lucas Pratto as their strikers.

One good thing to come out of this international break is John Egan making his Ireland debut. Well deserved. He'll be a fixture in their defence for years to come.

Yeah, but Aguero has been shit in the qualifiers. Pratto starring ahead of him actually is understandable, even though he transferred to another club in Brazil because he was on the reserve of Fred (yes, that one) and wanted a guaranteed place in the starting XI.

But with Aguero being terrible and Higuain missing decisive goals at the big games, sooner or later they'll have to drop Messi and Mascherano's "HE BANGED MY FRIEND'S GIRL! DON'T DO THAT TO MY BRO, MAN!" veto to Icardi.

If either player was suddenly going to find his form when it mattered, I'd back one of the best strikers in the world over Pratto.

I struggle to find any sympathy for Maxi Lopez. I see no reason why his wife should show him any more loyalty than he showed to her. Admittedly saying no to Messi is a difficult position for Bauza to find himself in, especially whilst he is still trying to establish himself.

Maybe someone like Giovanni Simeone would be a decent pick - playing regularly in a top league and scoring a good number of goals. He has performed pretty well at youth level as well it seems.

I agree with all this.

And with Brazil's victory (including two assists via back heels by Paulinho) and Peru beating Uruguay, Brazil is the first country qualified to the 2018 World Cup (apart from Russia, obviously).

Not good, this.

Our tackling was bad. But I really don't understand the need to start Pennington. He hasn't looked comfortable in PL matches earlier, and he really didn't today either. Holgate there would be better, and perhaps Lennon in the wing back position. Hope I don't see Pennington again.

All three goals today was down to bad defending, even if Coutinho took his well. Robles showing on the third that perhaps he's not really a first choice keeper.

If Williams lose out after today, we are well and truly f*cked for the rest of the season. If so, we'll have to start Jags and Holgate, and have ______ at right back. He'll be better than everyone else.
