SXSW: Season 8 and Spin-off Discussed

7 posts in this topic

The Game of Thrones panel at SXSW, featuring producers Benioff and Weiss, as well as actresses Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, has revealed a few tidbits of news as reported by EW.

The most notable items, in my view, are that Benioff and Weiss have indicated that the final season of the series will be only 6 episodes long (although one wonders what odds one or more of those episodes will run long), and that they have no plans of being involved in any Game of Thrones spin-off or prequel project HBO may come up with. Also, this upcoming season will feature a cameo from musician Ed Sheeran, who happens to be a huge fan of the show as you can see in the video below.

Why would be any surprise for the final season only have 6 episodes ? D & D were bragging for years that they and GRRM are BFFs, and GRRM told them huge amount of plots of the future novels, well now we know that is not true at all, so of course, leaving the guidance of GRRM's published books, it is completely out of D & D's league to develop their own story line, thuns having fewer episode would be their only choice

is the role of step child being cast for Sheeran? HBO will surely capitalize on the popularity of GoT and other series are sure to follow. I'm not so hot on a RR, but I'd like to see DnE.

More storylines are by no means necessary. Just tie up the existing ones and come to a conclusion. If it weren't for hbo they would have wrapped it all up in one final 7th season and that would have been the way to go. As for a spinoff, who can blame them, they've been taking fans' crap  for 10 years (which they sometimes deserved, but sometimes didn't) of course the last thing they want is further involvement. If I were them I would go on a 3-month vacation after the show is over in 2018, they sure can afford it.

#savage...but true.

they wrote a terrible unfunny and just terrible in general, "Always Sunny In Philadelphia" episode, which is as close to impossible as you can get in the world of TV, IMO, and crazy enough, have not been asked to write another.

I keep seeing this Ed Sheeran thing and keep thinking who cares? I like him, but we're watching for GOT not a split second of him talking to Jon or whomever.
