Pushin' it to the limit: the Alchemist as Tony Montana figure

Recommended Posts

(Spoilers for Scarface)

A mysterious and dangerous foreigner arrives in a sunny southern port city and sets about rising to the top, actually literally getting there, considering the Citadel is a tall building. He even commits a murder and takes the place of his victim.

And of course, there's this:

Quote

He was just a man, and his face was just a face. A young man's face, ordinary, with full cheeks and the shadow of a beard. A scar showed faintly on his right cheek. He had a hooked nose, and a mat of dense black hair that curled tightly around his ears. It was not a face Pate recognized. "I do not know you."

The Alchemist is a literal Scarface. I dread to think what this means for TWOW - perhaps Euron won't be taking Oldtown after all...

I also thought this was interesting:

Quote

Push it to the limit
Walk along the razor's edge
But don't look down, just keep your head
Or you'll be finished

The "razor's edge" naturally reminds one of William of Ockham, a medieval theologian and philosopher, whose Westerosi equivalents we would find generally in... Oldtown!

Hell, Oldtown even sounds like Ockham! Try it... say it out loud: Oldtown, Ockham. Oldtown, Ockham. See?
