Ghost and Nymeria

I don't really buy the whole Jon and Arya end up together thing. I don't think there will be any romance between them... at least not in their first lives. However, I could see Ghost and Nymeria becoming mates. Nymeria is the last female direwolf, and Ghost might become the last male direwolf, if Shaggydog and Summer die.

We are also told that Nymeria is some sort of Queen of the wolves, and we have that quote from Varamyr about how a second life in a direwolf would be one worthy of a king or something. Seems like a match.

Wolves live far shorter lives than people, so there won't be any second wolf lives for any stark unless they die very young

For all we know, Jon is already dead, and is in his second life in Ghost right now. It's not crazy to think that Arya will meet her end sometime soon.

For strictly debate purposes, yes, there is a good chance that Jon is already dead and Arya will join him in wolf love. But really, we all know he is going to survive, by hook or by crook or by plot magic

In what scenario would Nymeria travel hundreds of leagues north, away from her pack, just to mate with her brother? Or vice versa.
I know there's some minor "magical" destiny stuff going on with these wolves, but even that may be pushing it. They would have no reason of knowing where each other is.

Isn't there a quote in Clash of Kings, I think (maybe Storm of Swords), when Jon is having a wolf dream and comments about being able to feel his brothers and sister and knowing one is dead (If it's in Clash [or early on in Storm] then Grey Wind would still be alive). I think this would be confirmation that the direwolves, or at least Ghost, is (are) able to know where each other are.

This reminds me of that really disturbing fanfiction porn where Greywind and Nymeria shag while Robb and Arya were in them.  What makes people think this shit up?

You should peruse reddit for awhile. the answers to almost everything is in there, somewhere

Yah, I'm not big on the Jon-Arya romance.  I think that story line transferred over to Jaime-Cersei at some point in the process.  Like the tale of the last hero and his dog; I think Ghost's days are numbered.

I don't think Arya can meet her end until she sticks Euron through his scaly armor with the pointy end.  She may also be the 'angel' who delivers the gift of mercy to Jon when all is said and done.

Quote

A Game of Thrones - Arya I

Jon watched them leave, and Arya watched Jon. His face had grown as still as the pool at the heart of the godswood. Finally he climbed down off the window. "The show is done," he said. He bent to scratch Ghost behind the ears. The white wolf rose and rubbed against him. "You had best run back to your room, little sister. Septa Mordane will surely be lurking. The longer you hide, the sterner the penance. You'll be sewing all through winter. When the spring thaw comes, they will find your body with a needle still locked tight between your frozen fingers."

A Feast for Crows - Arya II

"Death is not the worst thing," the kindly man replied. "It is His gift to us, an end to want and pain. On the day that we are born the Many-Faced God sends each of us a dark angel to walk through life beside us. When our sins and our sufferings grow too great to be borne, the angel takes us by the hand to lead us to the nightlands, where the stars burn ever bright. Those who come to drink from the black cup are looking for their angels. If they are afraid, the candles soothe them. When you smell our candles burning, what does it make you think of, my child?"

Winterfell, she might have said. I smell snow and smoke and pine needles. I smell the stables. I smell Hodor laughing, and Jon and Robb battling in the yard, and Sansa singing about some stupid lady fair. I smell the crypts where the stone kings sit, I smell hot bread baking, I smell the godswood. I smell my wolf, I smell her fur, almost as if she were still beside me. "I don't smell anything," she said, to see what he would say.

I know Jon and Arya are most likely cousins, but Ghost and Nymeria are siblings.

Exactly. That's really bad genetics. Particularly if you expect them to repopulate Westeros. It would be better to have Ghost and Nymeria each find mates from the direwolves still living north of the Wall, or possibly Essos. And honestly, there don't need to be that many direwolves; each pair would control a huge territory based on their size and habits.

I'd always thought of Jon and Arya as being close in the brotherly-sisterly way. But there seem to be plenty of people who can't conceive of non-sexual affection and insist in pairing everybody (and every thing) into breeding pairs. That said, maybe Nym and Ghost could have some "off-species" romance with regular wolves and enrich that breed. We have plenty of dog-wolf hybrids here in the 21st; why not Westeros?
