That's true, I apologize for the conflation between the two...

Yeah, it was Nebraska Nelson that was holding it up, as mention by Triskan, although if it wasn't him it would have been Landrieu or....  I don't see what gain would have been made by embarrassing him.  Political or otherwise.

To be fair, I and the ersatz Commodore made that conflation first.

Alright fine, I suppose we were never likely to get a Public Option. That said, Joe Lieberman can still eat a bag of dicks.

fair, it's not like most people actually enjoy having mandated access to healthcare, and actually get pissed when it could be taken away. glad we settled on the norm being a right wing HI position

Yeah! As long as I'm handing out bags of dicks, here's one with Ben Nelson's name on it!

Politics:  You do what's possible, and exploit what's not.

When it comes to Lieberman's positions which are actually relevant to his potential position as FBI chief, let's keep in mind that he previously supported banning internet porn, wanted to censor violent video games, opposed internet free speech, wanted to expand the Espionage Act to cover publishing leaked information in the media, supported introducing an "Internet kill switch" controlled by the US president, opposed Geneva convention protections for terrorism suspects and that he is a strong supporter of death penalty.

Combined with Trump presidency, this makes him a scary choice, regardless of his other political positions.

Lieberman has no real managerial or law enforcement experience. I don't like him, but my dislike notwithstanding, that seems like it ought to be disqualifying. Given the circumstances surrounding Comey's firing, a reputation for personal integrity seems like another requirement. "He's a lawyer" is about the only thing in the plus column.

Irrespective of any nomination or lack thereof, fuck Joe Lieberman.

I was once on the private subway that goes between the senate office buildings and capital hill with Joe Lieberman (and Dick Durbin); he seemed unpleasant in person. My friend I was with shouted 'Single Payer Rules!' when we got off at a stop before him. This was in the spring of 2009.

The quote and other functions won't work for me, so, I'm reading in Aljazzera that Sweden has dropped it rap "

Swedish prosecutors on Friday dropped a rape investigation into Julian Assange, the founder of anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, bringing to an end a seven-year legal stand-off.

Yet, British police said he would still be arrested if he left the Ecuadorean embassy in the UK capital, London, where he has been holed up since 2012."

All lies. Roger the Hutt was choked to death by Megyn Kelly on his Pleasure Barge yesterday afternoon.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Also, I'm going to use this as an opportunity to once again point out that no two people have ever looked more alike, including every identical twin, even the Morris brothers who have matching tattoos, then Megyn Kelly and Nicole Simpson. Google it!

Now on a serious note, it appears that President Erdogan was watching his body guards beat up those protesters in person, and might have ordered them to do so. A foreign dictator, ordering his thugs to beat up American citizens on American soil, and President Trump doesn't respond. What does that tell the rest of the world?

Of course no sane person would hire Trump to run their company. I think the real question here is:

Would you let Trump run a Lemonade Stand?

http://ritholtz.com/2017/05/america-company-keep-trump-ceo/

Quote

Businessweek asks the ultimate business question about a businessman who became “CEO president” promising to run the country like a business, as he did with all of his personal businesses: Would You Let Trump Run Your Company?

Interesting:

Quote

Technology adoption accounts for 30 to 50 percent of health-care spending growth. The structure of insurance plans is a key determinant of medical technology developers’ incentives to innovate, but that structure does not currently promote high-value innovation.

When preparing to brief Trump on the state of things, be sure to include nap time and a pacifier.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trumps-foreign-hosts-make-unusual-preparations-his-visit

Quote

A source briefed extensively on the meeting’s preparations explained, “It’s kind of ridiculous how they are preparing to deal with Trump. It’s like they’re preparing to deal with a child – someone with a short attention span and mood who has no knowledge of NATO, no interest in in-depth policy issues, nothing…. They’re freaking out.”

And could we get some inflation up in the house? Puuuleeeze?

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-05-18/inflation-isn-t-cooperating-with-the-fed

Quote

The Federal Reserve can’t catch a break on the inflation numbers, which are simply not helping in its drive to normalize monetary policy.

Monetary policy makers have three possible responses to the weak inflation data. First, they can define down the extent of an acceptable miss on their target. Second, they can dismiss the numbers as transitory and focus instead on full employment. Third, they can rethink their estimates of full employment and the subsequent implications for the path of interest rates.

Trump's incompetence may kill the ACA.

http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2017/05/republican-incompetence-may-finally-sink-obamacare

Quote

Donald Trump may or may not be trying to destroy Obamacare, but his sheer incompetence is doing the job regardless. Noam Levey spoke to health insurance companies about their plans for 2018:

Quote

Republicans have been claiming forever that Obamacare is failing. That's been flatly untrue: Obamacare has its issues, but has basically been running just fine—and the Congressional Budget Office projects that it will continue to to run just fine for years. Apparently this is too much for Republicans to bear, so now that they're in power they're going to force it to fail. The sheer callousness and venom this displays is breathtaking.

I just hope payback cometh the Republican Party's way. And next time, let's just hope, rather than screwing around and even trying to pretend to play nice with the Republican Party, whenever the Democratic Party gets it's chance, it just puts in single payer.

I really do believe that an extremely hard attitude towards the Republican Party is in order here.

This whole situation makes me hotter than a two dollar pistol.

James Comey tried to blend in with curtains to avoid Trump's attention

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

There is so much comedy gold in this article, but I think the funniest thing is wondering if Mike Pence questioned his sexuality when Trump blew Comey a kiss because his wife wasn't there to protect him.

Lol, that's what I had at the back of my mind!

Eta: as has been repeatedly pointed out, that was a one-way hug. Note how he walked up to him with his hand out, for shaking.
