I saw Wonder Woman last weekend. It was ok, I think I'm reaching my limit for comic book films. I'll probably go see Baby Driver tomorrow, it looks pretty cool and seems to be getting positive reviews.

My feelings exactly. Hopefully Baby Driver will re-ignite my interest in movies. WW might be the final nail in the coffin.

I watched the new Power Rangers movie last night. Wasn't expecting much, but I grew up with the show as a kid. It actually was a lot better than I expected. It's certainly not with out it's flaws, and it's lighter on action that I had expected, but the characters were fairly well developed. And really, that's the most important thing. You actually care about what happens to them. If you were a fan of the show as a kid I'd suggest checking it out. If you weren't don't bother.

watched Okja on Netflix tonight. Excellent film, well written and directed and gorgeously shot. Nice commentary on the pleasant face of corporate capitalism contrasted with reality, and a perfect blend of satire and disturbia. Great use of music, especially the Seoul chase sequence. And I'd be remiss for not mentioning the superb cast too, particularly the young girl portraying Mija. Blending sweet innocence and fierce determination with ease and managing to shine in a talented lineup.

I only wish I had the chance to see it in a cinema

Definitely recommend it!

Definitely agreed, I had tickets to see it at the Edinburgh Film Festival on sunday but had to give them away because of work - as much as I enjoyed it, (which was tremendously, every scene with the ALF was a delight) having it up on the big screen rather than on my slightly mediocre telly would have been an improvement.

It's my only issue with the Netflix films is that beautiful ones like this might be experienced sub optimally by a fair chunk of the viewership who might have iffy internet or not so great tvs/computers.

Baby Driver is really, really good. Great soundtrack, great cast, the car chases are super intense. It's not your typical Edgar Wright film, there's a few laughs here and there, but it is not a comedy. Might be my favorite thing he's done, which is a bold statement as I love Shaun of the Dead, but this is a little more up my alley. If you like crime/heist flicks I highly recommend it.

Watched the Italian film, Suburra. I found it excellent. A number of moving parts and subplots, but they are all related to the main plot  revolving around turning the coastal town of Ostia into a sort of Las Vegas. If you enjoy the series Gomorrah, you'll probably enjoy this.

Shameless is one of those shows that I've had multiple people recommend. I've had multiple nights staring at Netflix and Amazon's choices, re-watching some mediocre movie instead of starting something new. I'm now three episodes in, and really, really enjoying it. Why the hell did I wait so long! Argh! A few actors are mediocre, but for such an ensemble cast, I'm very impressed at how easily I fell into the rhythms of the family. It helps that I find Emmy Rossum unspeakably attractive, but the rest of the cast are so good that I'd hardly miss a beat if she wasn't involved for a few episodes.

Unless the show takes a sudden turn, I expect to binge through it all as soon as possible.

Anybody else noticed three different TV series this year used the same Nina Simone song? . . .

Legion is the only show I've seen this far, and out of those three clips I'd say it's winning. :D But it is curious how shows can overlap with music like that. I'm wondering if the rights tot hat song are fairly easy and inexpensive to get? Also, could be there was a use of the song in something last year that influenced all three showrunners to want to put it in their show.

It gets incredibly... shameless (for lack of a better word) in the 2nd or 3rd season. If you like the first season then I think you will like the next 5 seasons.  Season 6 and 7 got a little stale with the storylines but I think if you take a break instead of marathoning through them all, you may have a different experience.

Saw the Sam Elliot and Laura Prepon film THE HERO today. My friend and I both thought the same thing--it was close. Close to being a really good film. The dialogue is where the film suffers most. What makes this film really worth seeing, and I do recommend seeing it when it hits video, is Sam Elliot's performance. Shh. Hear that sound? It's Oscar buzz.

I'd say his previous films have been "slash comedies" meaning Shaun of the Dead is a horror/comedy, Hot Fuzz is action/comedy, etc. However, Baby Driver definitely one had the least comedy of any of his previous films.

Saw Baby Driver and it was solid. Nothing mind blowing but I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Jamie Foxx was suprisingly menacing in his role.

I thoroughly enjoyed Baby Driver as well. It drags on a bit in the third act, but the pacing and music are over all fantastic. Also, the direction is the real star of this film, and that's saying a lot with a cast of villains like this. Maybe somebody will give Edgar Wright another comic book property, or even better, a Star Trek or Star Wars film.

Almost completed the second season of The Last Kingdom. Solid show with good acting. I'd recommend if you're into historical fiction with a bit of GoT feel to it (politically speaking - no dragons).

I watched T2: Trainspotting last night.  Not as good as the original, nor as good as the book (Porno) it's based on, but worth a watch for fans of the original.  Danny Boyle tries lots of visual tricks to try and repeat the inventiveness of the original, without lightning striking a second time.  The soundtrack was nothing great either.  Relative to the book, the movie is simplified and shortened -- no surprise -- and spends more focus on the general disillusionment of middle-age.  Slightly smarmy Renton, menacing Begbie and gormless Spud are all back.  Although I like Johnny Lee Miller in Sherlock, I don't think he quite captures the parasitic, stylish Lothario of Sick-Boy.

Blood Drive is the weirdest, worst show I've ever seen.

I love it.

I watched about 30 seconds after the opening credits and then thought "Cops as the protagonists in a post-collapse dystopian exploitation plot? Way to misunderstand your genre-conventions, your audience, and the zeitgeist all at the same time. "

Watched Baby Driver the other day. It's very stylish and overall good. But I think the super excitement critically is more indicative of how bad the average hollywood film is these days.

What was good. A serviceable plot, some good car chases and characters that had a few twists and turns to them. The merging of the music with events "on screen" was also really cool. The problem was that the opening credits had a beautiful couple of minutes where the lyrics were naturally turning up or being acted out on the screen. Mesmerising stuff but there was a catch-22 with it. Either disappoint the viewer by not having that occur throughout or constantly distract the viewer by having it occur all the time. I think they were wise just to pepper it throughout but would maybe argue they shouldn't have opened so heavily with it.

I enjoyed the film especially the cleverness but I still wouldn't say it was an amazing film. Just better executed and more inventive than most stuff these days.

Dude... it makes *NO* sense. It's terrible. And hilarious.... its like watching a reality show about mental patients performing intestinal surgery.
