Under the better leadership, North Am would be a powerhouse. We could reduce pollution, spare the Great Lakes, spare the oceans and waterways, harness recycling, invest in green energy, reduce the threats to minorities, trade more freely, share resources, invest in cures for diseases and not pharmaceutical disease perpetuation, have sunny vacations in the winter, and have breathable air. Future generations will be healthier and happier. Okay, no reason.

Hmm. So it's Europe's marginalization of the Muslim population that is causing this surge of terror attacks that they are suffering from. is it?

Yes, that is part of the problem. That and the fact we have been supporting our ally the USA in fucking over many Islamic nations in the past decades. And a history of colonialism and supporting oppressive regimes. And protectionist trade systems.

Do think back a few decades, and realize that the IRA, ETA, and other similar organizations were also rooted in oppressed minorities.

"Ghettoisation" itself isn't the cause.  Historically the same thing happened with US immigrants.  There were German, Polish, Chinese, Irish, Italian neighborhoods just as now there are African, Indian & Hispanic neighborhoods.  Over time, all of these initially poor groups were assimilated into mainstream American culture.  I would say we are doing a much much worse job of this the last 20 or 30 years...but an initial geographic isolation does not feel like a root cause unless it's matched with other variables.  We still have Chinatowns and Little Italy's, and ethnic neighborhoods.

And historically a lot of those ghettos resulted in ethnically homogeneous groups of violent young men reaping havoc, often lasting for decades. Of course we call that organized crime, not terrorism, but it seems the same process.

I’m going to take a wild guess here that the concept of situational awareness is not on the curriculum at Trump U.

Didn't you get the memo? There's been too much winning so now he's purposely losing.

Jesus, this guy is such an idiot!  Only way to get his ban passed is to not call it a ban, so what does he do?  Go to twitter and call for the Travel Ban, in caps, to thwart terrorism.  This was already decided to be unconstitutional and now his own stupidity has killed any possible chance of it passing.

Putin couldn't ask for anything better at this point. According to Politico, Trump specifically removed language that re-affirmed the US commitment to Article 5 prior to his speech and didn't tell any of his National Security team. There was an approved draft that went through Mattis, McMaster, Tillerson that had the language in it and then he specifically removed it. Not a good look.

I just posted this in the UK Politics thread, because I had a few choices. Am reposting here.

I'm hard pressed to know which thread to post this in. I just watched Trump surrogate Jeffrey Lord, a real piece of work himself, justify Trump's posts about the Mayor of London. The Mayor telling people not to be alarmed about extra police on the streets was just like Neville Chamberlain telling Londoners not to be alarmed about Nazi bombers flying over London. Trump obviously believes the British are not taking terrorism seriously, he said.

That Republican attitude should be enough to convince anyone not to vote for the Conservatives.

It was a f...ing video statement.
there is no debate as to what was said, no fast thinking is required; there is no selling required.
Trump, you were wrong, you were lying, and literally everyone knows it!
Is it possible to withdraw the invitation for an offical state visit? (Yes, I know, the invitation should never have been made in the first place, but still...)
