Jeor
England on course for a first innings lead. The Australian media was a little bit overhyped in rubbishing this England side - looks like it will be a closely contested series, which is good considering the lack of star power. Paxter
Smith into the 90s. He has saved Australia’s bacon in this first innings.
lmanion
This team doesnt deserve Smith he just constantly seems to carry them out of bad positions in games.
Paxter
England will be gutted if they concede a 50+ lead. The Gabbatoir might yet live up to its name...
Jeor
Agreed with Imanion...the Aussie batting lineup is carried entirely by Smith. None of the other batsmen have regularly made contributions. It's basically Smith, maybe a little bit of David Warner, and then bits and pieces of the rest. He is head and shoulders above the rest - weird, considering how he was once an all-rounder who was (rightly at the time) derided for the idea of becoming a specialist batsman. A bit like Steve Waugh, really. England on the back foot but it's far from a lost cause. This Test remains close.
lmanion
Yeah he was actually first picked as a leg spinner that could bat when we were looking to replace Warne and I dont think anyone ever saw him at the time becoming the player he is now. This is still a really close test match. Cummins bowled a great little spell to end the day there. England will need Root to stick around most of tomorrow and find someone to help him
ljkeane
I still think Smith’s technique looks awful. I suppose averaging about 60 he might be able to do a job as a batsman though. England have let this slip a bit here, they’ll have to bat well tomorrow. If only we had an opening partner for Mark Stoneman.
Paxter
Haha @ljkeane. One thing this test match might’ve done is drastically increase the chances of Stokes taking some part in the series. I think the ECB will be very tempted to tilt the dial England’s way given how close these first few days have been.
Xray the Enforcer
Finally back to watching the cricket and I've been thoroughly enjoying this Test. Even though the first day I had to watch it on a phone.
Paxter
England have fallen in a bit of heap really. I can’t see anything other than an Aussie win from here.
Jeor
Yep, looks like it will be a formality tomorrow. Nice to see Bancroft get a half century - always good to get a decent score under your belt on debut. Up until today (and close of play last night) it was on a knife edge but today has really gone Australia's way. Even if it's a big victory tomorrow, I'm still positive that we'll get a pretty tight series.
Tinker
Fox Sports is reporting Bancroft was headbutted by Bairstow in Perth earlier this month.

At least it looks it could be a more competitive a series than the last Ashes in Australia, most of the England batsmen have had some time in the middle (except for Cook), so they've got something to build on although they're going to need someone to start scoring centuries rather than fifties. Xray the Enforcer
How the fuck did Engerland lose that? I mean, I KNOW how they lost it. But didja hafta collapse so profoundly?
lmanion
Well the last day and a bit were a bit one sided after a really even start to the test
Paxter
Yeah it’s an interesting outcome to the test. Plenty of positive notes for England with Root, Malan, Stoneman and Vince all posting solid scores and the bowlers running through Australia’s top order on Day 2. But in the end Smith plus the rampant Aussie attack helped the hosts to a comfortable win. And Bancroft and Warner really rubbed salt into the wounds in the fourth innings. Overall I’d like to say that this test match clearly foretells something other than a 5-0 result but...I don’t think I can.

The video is great as well, with Steve Smith trying and failing to keep a straight face besides Bancroft. I particularly liked the despairing "Does anybody want to talk about the cricket?" question at the end.
