Let's Make The North Forget!

Recommended Posts

Let's make the north forget any thoughts of revenge.  Goods will need to pass through the Twins for the north to survive.  The northern port of white harbor could freeze.  The Red Wedding will soon be forgotten if the Freys and the Boltons were to help provide food to a hungry north.  Not for free.  The north doesn't deserve that.  A generous discount and passage without toll will be generous terms in my view.

I grant you that a very few people like Arya will refuse to forget.  The majority are not that sick and will quickly let the war pass from their memory.

The kingsroad is less than 300 years old (and totally separate from the Twins), and White Harbor less than 1,000. Yet folks have survived winter in the North, every single time. The North doesn't need help surviving. And the Freys (who will not survive to any type of end game) and Boltons (also won't survive long enough to matter) are suddenly going to be forgiven for Regicide by putting a stranglehold on food supplies? Laughable idea at best.

The North will forget. When every Frey is dead, every Bolton is dead and Cersei and Theon for good measure.

No way!  They have survived thousands of years, long before the Freys built The Twins (about 600 years earlier depending on interpretation...beginning with a rickety bridge over the Green Fork).  The First Men didn't need the Freys, and the North is still wild in many parts...relying on no one but themselves.

The only way to make the North forget would be to commit genocide on the older generations, take the children, and give them an education which wipes out all memories of their heritage or culture. Then scatter said children across Westeros to settle elsewhere while you either abandon the North to the wildlings or repopulate it with others willing to settle it.

That could work in a region of merchants and beggars. The North is not that sort of region. Dying of starvation is common in long winters and the North had never flinched to it. People would either walk outside until they die of cold or join an army (ex the Winter wolves) of desperate people in their bid to give their death some meaning. The wildlings are even tougher then the Northerners. Also note that after the Greyjoy invasion, the Red Wedding and the Bolton-Starks-Stannis war, there are hardly many mouths to feed either.

So how would someone be able to make the North forget? There’s only one thing that the Northerners hate more than the Lannisters/Targs and that is Roose Bolton and Walder Frey. Therefore any king who wants the North back must

Strip the Freys from all their lands and titles. The Red wedding is despicable and it created a precedent that no on sitting on the IT should accept.

Bring the CR hostages back to KL. Promise them military assistance, revenge on the Boltons, a pardon and the return of all their lands and titles IF they bend the knee to the king.

Restore Edmure as Lord of Riverrun and LP of the Riverlands but only after both remaining Tullys had bent the knee. Brynden will be given the opportunity to join the KG and lead the Southern armies to the siege at the Twins. Im surely that will bring the old trout out of his hiding.

Provide Sansa with a pardon. Marry her to a handsome highborn who will treat her right (Aegon? Jamie? Jorah?)

Use the Tyrell links (Danny should marry Willas), open the ‘food’ route up North.

Legitimise and release Jon Snow from his NW duty. Give Jon Stark/Targeryan the Lordship over the Dreadfort if, in turn, he bends the knee and he marries Janei Lannister (if Lannister king) Alynne Connington (Aegon) or Missandei (Danny).

The North is more likely to forget, if an army of 20k lead by the Greatjon and Brynden Tully reaches Moat Cailin with food supplies and Walder’s head on a spike.
