Dragonstone

In the first Jaime/Cersei scene, we see them on a map of Westeros, and planning against Dany's invasion of Westeros. Jaime points out that Dany is most likely to land on Dragonstone, a chain of islands under the domain of the Crownlands. There are two inconsistencies with this, either Euron sailed his fleet into Kings Landing without being harassed by Dany's fleet or Cersei/Euron did nothing to stop Dany from taking Dragonstone or even manning it. Stupidity at it's finest, Cersei could of at least filled it with Wildfire and blew it up if she didn't care about it.

Not a bad idea tbh. Put loads of wildfire in the castle and one trusted little bird and when Daenerys and co. arrives to admire the carved table, BUM! Even if Dany was wildfire-proof, her army isn't.

But I suppose that you can't kill off two favorite characters like this after following their story for 6 seasons...

They should have taken dragon stone back. But in terms of her going there to destroy it or man it when she heard dany there you have to remember that they didn't have radar or sattelites to tell them dany is coming. It likely came to them when dany was half way across the sea. Also they didn't go over it in the books but wildfire is incredibly hard to make on mass. Only certain people know how and you need magic for it as well. And they couldn't use the casks stored under kings landing because wildfire gets even more unstable as it ages so those casks that have been there since before robert rebellion ended would be impossible to move without having them explode.  Also they wanted a dramatic entrance to dragonstone

As I always say about this show, you can't overthink it and analyze it in the way that you would the books.  Logic and narrative shortcuts are consistently used (and maybe necessary sometimes).  You are right- It doesn't make sense when you really think about it.  But the show wanted that scene at the end of this week's episode (IMO it was really well-done and a great scene so it was worth it) of Dany taking in Dragonstone silently.

I agree that Dragonstone should have been manned by - someone.

Even if everyone dropped the ball though and left a strategically placed castle standing completely empty - how did Dany know that?

When Dany lands it does not seem as if the island and fortress where even scouted by her forces before she walks there ahead of everybody else. I realize this makes for nice cinematic images but would it really have been too much to ask to see some boats land ahead of her and troups making sure she and her advisers were safe?

That could have been easily done in a more logical way. Have the Tyrells take it back for the crown after Stannis leaves and maintain a force there. (One line in a council meeting about it would have been enough).

Since the Tyrells are now Danys allies, they open the doors for her to dramatically explore the castle in silence.

Hmm, I wonder if that's what happens in the books, since there's currently a Tyrell force there?
