I decided to be merciful and give it a 7; there was enough enjoyable stuff and little enough revolting stuff to make me judge more mercifully.

Some good stuff in Drsgonstone, like Dany not feeling like it's a homecoming and generally feeling a little let down and deflating all that stuff about everyone toasting to her etc. Also the quizzing of Varys (or Varx, as he's also called); that I thought was rather strong, and at least Varys actually had reasons for his less than ideal behaviour, which is more than LF could say when quizzed about marrying off Sansa to Rambo. Some of the council stuff was OK, like the bit about Jon Snow. And one nice thing about this episode is that there's actually some awareness of things happening in previous episodes.

Less good things about Dragonstone: Didn't Dany say in season 3 that Valyrian was her native tongue? Then why is Missandei in a position to explain it to her? It would have been better to have someone else (Tyrion? although he already has enough to do, he is known not to speak Valyrian very well) raise the Prince question. Sand Snakes an Faullaria, blearghgghhgh (but see below). Olenna ... mheh, I suppose not bad. Missandei-GW: oh well.

Euron was a bit more enjoyable in this episode; cartoon villainy seems to be his forte. He remains the least interesting major villain. But ... I will be eternally and everlastingly grateful to him for having reduced the numbers of the Dorne contingent> YES! Dorne I fear is unsalvageable since all the non-rubbish characters were killed off earlier.

Winbterfell is also somewhat better. I still wonder, though, why Sansa (some people seem to call her "Sandra" now; is that to go with "Larry" and "Carol"?) keeps opposing Jon in public. Are we supposed to think she's empowered, or that she envies or resents the KITN thing? My random guess is that: 1. it gives her something to do; 2. someone ought to be opposing the Dany alliance, and she was handy. I'm still not quite convinced by the conflict thing. But Kit Harrington made some nice speeches, and we got the balcony scene.

Another mystery is why Davos is so underemployed. I wouldn't have even known he was in the first episode if it hadn't been for Sweetrobin's "Davos Watch". Surely he'd be the one to tell them Dragonstone has dragonglass?

Arya's two scenes were both touching. One just has to forget that she massacred several only mildly guilty people in the last episode, just as one has to forget Dany buried people alive in Quarkth.

I suppose I'm glad enough for Jorah to be healed, but didn't really need the medical torture. Sam .. not to dis the character, and certainly not the actor, does seem to have more screen time than he needs.

I'm still mystified as to why Jaime is with Cersei. It seems to the only person to react to the burning of the sept is ... Hot Pie?

8 on the post season 4 modified scale.  Avoided serious ham handed writing moments for once.  GW/Miss sex scene was amazingly boring considering how hot those two actors are.   Cheesy gross transitions are beneath the show, even at it's current Michael Bay level.

I liked the ship battle, but Euron is so overdone, I can't lose myself in the scenes he's in.  He's like a cartoon character.  Even if I was celebrating him slaughtering 2/3 of the Sand Snakes.

Where were the dragons ? On Dragonstone with Dany, obviously.

Dany's navy wasn't entirely destroyed. We saw in Season 6 that she had Greyjoy ships, Tyrell ships, Martell ships, and the ships she stole from the Masters of Astapor, Yunkai, and Volantis, which she put Targaryen sails on. In this battle we only saw Greyjoy ships, so it seems clear only part of her navy was destroyed, the Greyjoy part. She obviously still has other ships, since Tyrion said the Unsullied were sailing to Casterly Rock.

Why would Tarly fight along side Dothraki and Unsullied ? Neither option appeals to him, but at the end of the day he's choosing to fight for the Crown over fighting with foreign invaders. Makes sense.

The show has hundreds of plot holes, inconsistencies, and contradictions, but those three points are not among them.

Wow, you got all the answers......except....

How could you tell there were only Greyjoy ships there? It was dark and you just made up that answer. You're assuming.

Tarly could have sat it out. Plenty of that going on. The 'Late' Lord Frey, the Aerie both have sat out most the war. Dorne for the most part.

Tarly didn't HAVE to throw in with the murderous bitch Queen of Kings Landing.  One would think that if you have three Dragons that close to Kings Landing you might use the opportunity to destroy your opponents navy as soon as possible.

Those three points are what I was thinking about ......your Smugness.

Maybe you ought to watch episode 2 again. We saw tons of sails, and they were ALL Greyjoy sails. Yes, it was dark, but we could still clearly see Greyjoy sails. Second, in the council scene on Dragonstone, Tyrion very clearly says that Yara will take "her Iron Fleet" and escort Ellaria to Dorne. It's obvious that Dany's other ships are needed for the Dothraki and Unsullied, so it's only Yara's ships that are being sent to Dorne.

Finally, if you watched episode 4, you'll know that I was right, and that Dany's fleet was not entirely destroyed. We clearly saw that she was able to bring her tens of thousands of Dothraki to the mainland.

Regarding Tarly, of course he COULD have sat it out, but he obviously didn't want to. It makes sense to me that he wouldn't want to sit back. The Late Lord Frey is a fucking coward, that's why he sits out battles, and Dorne and the Vale are kingdoms that are known for keeping to themselves. Randyll Tarly is no coward, he's a military man, and it seems completely within his character for him to fight foreign invaders instead of waiting for them to come murder and rape his family.

My smugness isn't the issue here buddy, your lack of logic is.

@nickstark2494

Sorry if that doesn't tag you, I'm not on this site much since the update & am on my mobile so I'm not sure I did it right.

Anyway I've been reading through the comments & it seems to me that you are getting a hard time & being accused of being nasty for stating the truth. The majority of what you have pointed out has been facts, not opinions but some seems to get angry when they are corrected. At any rate I just wanted to thank you because I think about commenting every time someone says something inconsistent but eventually decide it isn't worth the argument.

To the ones he is/has argued with - I'm not arguing with you & have no intentions on starting an argument with you. I simply agree with him

First, I'm not your buddy okay Smuggie?

Seeing 'Tons of sails in the dark'? Not logical, if you watch it again you might see 10.

Where were the Dothraki sitting, and why didn't Euron's ships ever run into any of the other ships shuffling troops to the mainland.  Look at the map and use your incredible logic to puzzle that one out.

Tarly could have sat it out.  It was just an opinion and a viable one at that considering Mad Queen Cercie had just torched his Liege Lords whole family in a move reminiscent of the Mad King.

Before the war of 5 kings. What events did the Vale sit out of?  I believe they withdrew under the rule of Caitlyn's somewhat psychotic sister.

I wrestled with even responding to this because you seem to be one of the intolerant people who just HAVE TO BE RIGHT!  It's a fantasy series with many hard to swallow plot holes.  It's entertaining, but don't get to caught up with 'logical'.  Otherwise maybe you can explain the sudden appearance of the Vale knights at Winterfell.  Littlefingers transporter. Or even Bronn and Jaime's swim all the way across a lake, that was a river, with Jaime in full armor- underwater!

I give this one a mark of 7, an improvement on the premiere. The scenes were a bit more interesting and there were only two scenes that I really didn't like.

+ RIP Obara and Nymeria, getting exactly what they deserved. Go Euron! He unintentionally avenged Prince Trystane.

+ The war council at Dragonstone at the start of the episode, with the Queen of Thorns present.

+ Hot Pie turns up again! Arya was weirdly detached in this scene.

+ Randyl Tarly was portrayed in a more favourable light than last season. But did he really believe Cersei's BS about the Sept blowing up by accident?

- Jon's inexplicable rudeness towards Littlefinger, the guy who saved them. Even if he doesn't like him, he should have at least been diplomatic to a powerful lord like LF. Not that it was very smart of LF to declare his love for Sandra.

- The Grey Worm/Missandei scene. There was no build-up to this and it went on for too long.

- Dany dragging Viserys' name through the dirt, the same brother who looked after her for 16 years.

- Sandra somehow thinks she knows Cersei better than LF does, even though LF had been at King's Landing for years, and Sansa/Cersei didn't even interact in seasons 3 and 4.

- Again, the Citadel was pretty yuck.

- Davos should already told Jon that Dragonstone was full of dragonglass, because he's with Davos who spent lots of time there.

- A disappointing lack of support for Jon's decision to visit Dragonstone.

I gave it a 7 out of 10, because althought it was  an great episode it was a little despointing how Tyrion's plan failed because he didn't predict the Euron Greyjoy fleat attack, but of cource the thing people in general like most about game of thrones is how a fantasy show can provide characters that are human and make mistakes like humans.

The same brother who liked to fondle her, sold her like chattel, and threatened her unborn child. She pretty much disowned him after that.
