I remember reading that too, something to do with you need living flesh as a conduit to use force lightning so Vader was unable to use it.

I was also under the relatively obvious impression that Vader would zap his life-support when he tried to shoot Force Lightning. What with being a cumbersome walking hospital and all.

Question to the group: Is there anything really spoilery in the trailer? Because, yeah, I'd like to watch it once or twelve times.

It's not the sort of trailer that gives half the film away but it does show a lot of scenes.

It really does give a fair bit away of what the film will be about, you just don't know exactly how it will unfold. I just watched it because I knew I could not resist.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that was covered somewhere too, I only remember the living flesh thing explicitly though.

That was a very nice trailer. Obvioulsy a no brainer that I'd see this anyway but liked what I saw.

Well maybe what I didn't like so much is that Luke seems so relucant, clearly the way he seems to be portrayed for a good part of the film. The juxtaposition of Rey and Kylo is excellent though, quite interesting lead characters and that shot at the end is very good.

Another spoiler the trailer shows us is that Snoke at some point gets his hands on Rey and seems to be torturing her

As for who Luke is speaking about when he says he only saw that sort if power once before, unless it is deliberate misdirection, it is clearly Kylo as they show the Jedi building in flames right after it

.

Spoiler

Ignore this, can't delete on phone

I'm treating everything that seemed revelatory in the trailer as potential misdirection. Anything spoilers is the setting/premise for the film, not any of the resolution. I think with how much they had in there that at least one of them may actually be played straight given most will assume it's all misdirection anyway.

Yeah I feel like a lot of it was deliberate misdirection too, though inevitably some is bound to end up as it appears. Didn't catch any shots of the Casino planet, unless I missed something?

Spoiler-wise, I don't think it gave much away, besides a few things we knew or could guess already - Phasma is back, some battles, Rey training, Ben and Snoke together. That looked like Snoke in the flesh by the way, so no hologram this time I suppose.

Not really able to guess how this will all play out so I suppose not too spoiler-y at all

Shit. So.... Did he say that because they took out whatever spoiler he objected to a month ago or are they pressuring him to say that because trailer views are down and spooking investors?

I read his initial comment as being if you want to remain 100% completely, absolutely spoiler free, then best not to watch it. So like even if you don't want to know that Finn recovers ok from his coma or see the Porgs or stuff like that. He wasn't saying there was major spoilers there that people might wish to avoid.

That said... I haven't watched it yet and I'm not sure I will.

In the video game Revenge of the Sith you can use force lightning as Anakin in the sacking of the Jedi Temple level and again on Mustafar before being y'know, amputed.

In the EU it is speculated by a few terrible different characters that since the force is related to living things, Anakin having embraced machines to survive, he lost too much connection to the force to do things like force lightning and jumping sixteen million feets in the air.

Which is something I want to hit on. In the Orig Trig, Jedi weren't like minor gods they were just like knights. But in the orig trig all we had was an incredibly evil dude who could shoot lightning out of his hands, an old dude, an even older green dude, a quadruple amputee, and an untrained boy as our jedi's.

But in the prequels, the Jedi's are like greek gods, just flippin' out with all of this power. Which would make sense if they're all training together and learning the force. Now, in the new cannon there's just Luke who's an old guy that was never really trained. A scarred up monster man who seems old. And then an amnesiac and a psychopathic brat. The two characters with more than a decade's future are super powerful compared to the early bird's special Jedi, and I can see how that might scare Luke and Snoke both.

Does any of that make sense?

Vader not using force lightning because he is a weaker version of himself because he is too much machine comes from Lucas himself.  I remember him talking about it in the DVD commentary for New Hope.

I'm watching Return of the Jedi and Luke just blew up Jabba's yacht. And I'm pretty sure Luke just murdered a crapload of Jabba's slaves for no reason.

Think all the help on the Death Star that just took the job to feed their families. Luke is kind of a monster when you stop to think about it.

And Leia, whoa. How many people died because of her murderous planning?

Yep. Reminds me of this scene from Clerks.

But unlike those contractors, Jabba's slaves didn't even have a choice.

He did beat his father in a fit of rage.

And we all know Han shot first.

Nah, they just let them off and clearly let them starve to death in the desert let them leave in another skiff. There's probably a trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson about it somewhere.

So....with all the new information and leaks who do you guys think Rey is? A secret Skywalker, secret Kenobi (Obi Wan's granddaughter), secret Palpetine (granddaughter or some sort of force creation), secret Solo or a new character?

I hope she's the daughter of a mid-level insurance salesman on Tatooine Jakku, but one night his wife snapped. She started calling herself 'Kylo Ren', killed all the students at this nearby school, and developed latent mental powers.

The script leaks from months ago said who Rey is and the last trailer almost 100% confirmed it.

You mean this leak

her being a chosen one like Anakin? I don't like it and hope it doesn't happen...What was the point of 1-6 if it turns out that Anakin failed?
