I'll give it a 6. It was enjoyable in a way that action flicks are enjoyable - but it was below what I've come to expect from GoT. Far too many contrivances, and I don't think it was possible for me to have cared less about Dragon #3 being hit. I suspect this was supposed to be the big event of the episode, but even Drogon is barely a character in his own right, #2 and #3 are not at all.

I gave it a 7, but I do think I was being generous.

If I wanted to nit pick and focus on how ridiculous some of the timing scales were - Gendry's run back to the Wall and a raven seemingly flying from the Wall Dragonstone in the same time it took three dragons to fly from Dragonstone to the Wall, which appeared to be a few hours - I would end up giving this episode a 4, but I've come to accept that D&D realise what they are doing here. They know as well as we do how unlikely this is to make sense, but they want to wrap this thing up. More of this will come next season, so we all better get used to it.

There were some good moments, though. I liked the dialogue between the Hound and Tormund. As much as I didn't want it to happen, the dragons coming to the rescue was well done visually. I was happy they killed Viserion and brought the dragon back as a wight. Despite what a lot of people are saying, I think the show is handling Jon and Daenerys' relationship quite well. The scene with the two of them together in the boat was nice.

The lows of the episode was the needless killing of Benjen. I really have no idea why they couldn't have just let him come to save Jon and take him back to the Wall without him jumping off the horse and going to die. And, of course, the Winterfell storyline. It has been possibly the worst part of this season altogether, but episode 6 ripped it. I really dislike what they have done with Arya. For two actresses that seem as friendly as Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are in real life, they literally have zero on screen chemistry. Their conversations at Winterfell have easily been the worst examples of acting in the whole show.

s01e01 - Cersei: "We've been riding for a month, my love. Surely the dead can wait." (from KL to WF)

s07e06 - Gendry, Raven, Drogon: "Hold our beers."

I gave it 3/10, they already destroyed this show.

I think that is a bit harsh. Maisie and Sophie so far havent shown near as much chemistry onscreen as they have in interviews together, vines, etc, but I wouldn't say they have zero chemistry.

I definitely disagree their conversations at WF have been worst examples of acting in whole show. Both have portrayed their characters very well.

Maisie is playing Arya very differently this season (see thread "Arya Stark" I created today), but Im 99% sure that is a writing/dorecting choice, not an acting one. Whereas Maisie was always very expressive in her acting in seasons 1-6, this year she has played Arya as a cold, calculating, emotionless being who even states expressions of anger or resentment matter-of-factly rather than displaying emotion. Arya's soul and personality seemed to have been sucked out of the character which had a big impact on the scenes with Sansa/Sophie. Again though, I am certain Maisie is playing Arya as intended and the huge change in her delivery of the character  is in line with where the showrunners are taking her character. Something is definitely up.

The change with Arya is definitely a deliberate one by the writers, not by the actress herself. I think Maisie Williams has proven to be a great young actress, especially in the early seasons. But since Arya the character has changed, Maisie William's performances as her have got worse. I don't think she plays this new Arya as convincingly as she played the old Arya. Working off Sophie Turner hasn't help, as for me, she may be the weakest actress out of all the main cast, along with Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran.

The acting between Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner in the last episode was so wooden and unbelievable, in my eyes. Neither of them seem believable in their roles anymore.

This show used to be about how it subverted tropes and was intelligent and about humans. Now, its about hype and epicness.

Banter was probably the best written thing. The teleportation was outrageous. Jon Snow somehow surviving after taking a plunge means his plot armor is so thick it covers half of Westeros. His Mary Sue-ishness is disgusting.

Dany being mean just isn't convincing. Sorry. You can make it work, but right now it feels forced and out of character. Why no one has proposed a marriage yet is driving me insane.

I thought dragons were supposed to be creatures of fire and all, ye know. So, not revivable? Also, where did they get chains? Just, where? And how did they get them on a dragon at the bottom of a lake? But whatever, D&D decided we need to have an epic scene with Dany and Jon facing off against the night king on dragons, so all logic be damned, we need to get the epic shot!

Oh, and Winterfell. Congratulations, you made Winterfell Dorne!

Exactly! Let us not forget that a mere 24 ish hours before that a 5-10 foot wide crack in the ice stopped the wights in their tracks, but wrapping chains around a dragon lying on the bottom of the lake? No problem! Wtf?!

I gave this a 5 and I don't even know why because there were barely enough redeeming qualities for it to hit even 3.

Tormund acted the shit out of this episode. 1

Dragons 1

erm... that's it? Why did I give this a 5?

Thoros and coldhands died 1 (even though Beric and at least one other named character should have too)

okay we are at 3... erm... erm... erm...

no. I can't. It's 3.

Everything. Literally everything was wrong with this fucking episode and this is the first time in the history of my fandom that I'm asking myself, do I want to watch season 8 at all?

I can't even say the visuals were great because there's only so much you can do visually in a barren landscape covered in snow. The visuals was Drogon. And that other nameless dragon going down, but who cares about that.

Littlefinger makes no goddamn sense, Arya is a psychopath, Sansa makes no sense, the beyond the wall scenes made no sense, Tyrion made a little sense (+1) which made no sense in the frame of the show and literally nothing else happened, because we just watched people walking in the snow and talking for half the episode.

I have no words for how bad this was as an episode.

If I watched the 2-5 minute scenes as separate entities on YouTube I would say they are great, because the dialogues were mostly good (beyond the wall, at least, the Winterfell needs to be a silent movie) (+1 = there, I was soooooooo forgiving and good hearted I managed to scrape together the 5 points) , but if you try to link them to make a whole it doesn't work.

where the fuck is Bran, Euron, grey worm and Missandei? Is Euron camping in front of the rock and Grey worm is eating dead Lannisters inside the castle? Missandei is on a spa weekend month, and Bran is I don't know what the fuck Bran is doing while important shit happen around the NK and in his family, probably watching weirwoodnet porn.

and my god, the plot armor of these characters.... will they all live happily ever after or what the fuck? The death count is 3  nameless extras, the most disposable of the least important characters and that random plot device on a horse who shows up to save people once a season.

And an ICE BEAR? a fucking CGI ice bear?

My god I have no words.

On the worst GOT episodes top list.

I mean can it get any worse?

I know, I know. It totally can.

I gave it a 7.5 (voted an 8). Some scenes I really liked, others were quite bad.

things I loved:

I loved all the dialogue between the hound and tormund. The bear attack was nicely done, and the main battle in the episode was fantastic. Seeing Viseryion die was sad but I already saw it coming, and now the NK got a nice addition to his gang. Props for the CGI, the dragons look amazing this season.

Things I didn't like:

I'm quite ok with the fast pacing and some teleportation, but I think everyone agrees this episode crossed the line. Gendry running back in a couple of hours was quite funny, but the raven and dragon teleportation was bad.

Furthermore I feel like more people should have died. I'm glad Tormund made it in the end, but I think it would have been better if Beric sacrificed himself instead of Jon. This would also have prevented Benjen from dying.

I'm quite confused about the winterfell scenes. There are some good moments, but in the end it doesn't really make sense and I despise the forced hate between Arya and Sansa. Also LF isn't doing a lot which I hate. I want him to go out with a bang.

All in all still a pretty good ep, but with some big flaws. I hate to say it but I have to agree that the writing has been pretty bad this season. I just hope the finale will be spectacular.

I loved the episode for what it was, but for the first time will concede there was some awfully lazy writing. So many things could have been easily corrected, not sure what D&D was thinking. For instance, if Dany and her Dragons were already at the wall, at least we would not have to deal with the huge plot hole of gendry running a 26 mile marathon, the a raven flying 1400 miles, and on top of that, Dany and her Dragons then flying back that same 1400 miles, all in roughly 24-36 hours. Come on D & D!!!!!!!  I can forgive the Gendry marathon bit, as it didn't really seem like the party had been traveling all that long before they met up with the WW's. But the Rest???

And I am to believe that the NK just travels with 4 chains about 500 foot each,  with each individual link weighing in at roughly 70-100 lbs? Really?

Why not just have Viscerion crash land on dry ground? Did dragging him out of the Lake add anything to the story?

Two subtle changes could have made all the difference in the world.

True about the Viscerion thing, but I did think the visual of him sliding down into the water was absolutely gorgeous and tragic.

I agree that more people should have died. I mean, I'm glad that they didn't, because Jorah, Tormund and the Hound are up there in my top 10 favourite characters, but reason and powerful storytelling and GOT's reputation for killing off important characters says that we should have lost a big hitter. But we lost Thoros of Myr instead and I kinda shrugged my shoulders. Sad, but not a devastating loss.

5/10. And that is only because my expectations of the show have been severely reduced.

In truth the episode probably deserves around a 3-4 rating. The quality of the writing and dialogue has been rubbish since season 5 (and has actually gotten worse with each season since then). Having a big budget is the only saving grace of the show now.

OH...........MY.

What a hot mess this disappointment has become.  Makes me yearn even more for the next book to come out so I can see where the story really should go.

Many others have already said what I feel about this episode but it has one one positive thing for me.  It makes the wait for the next/ last season much easier to take.

I gave it a 6, my lowest ever and flirted with even lower but recognize the efforts and difficulties involved.

Arya and her whole character is now officially off the rails and ruined.  The Imp is now just a sounding board.   Always enjoy the Hound and Tormund.  Killing off the Priest and Benjen so cavalierly, not so much.  Whole north of the wall plot just to get a dragon to the night King was sad and unnecessary.  Danny could have seen the threat just by flying over.  In the beginning when he said "Not too bright, this one" he should have been talking about Jon.  Battle scenes went on too long and were actually boring unlike last week.  Dragon CGI still spectacular.

Hoping for a reprieve of sorts next week but usually the next to last episode is the pinnacle.

Was really annoyed with the raven. Was annoyed why zimbies would actually be afraid of falling into a lake and just wait for days until the lake freezes again. Then Dany flying in the last possible second... that's Hollywood and NOT Game of thrones. Why did the Night King not throw his javelin at Jon? How did Jon get out of that lake, where there were hundreds of wights just seconds before? Did he hide for an hour underwater?

I did not even get what Sansa's plan is. I thought LF told her to use Brienne for protection against Arya and then she sends her away. Did I get that wrong? Maybe I just dont care enough anymore...

Maybe Jon is not nearly as alive as he would like us to think.  He no longer needs to breathe and can survive underwater... ;)

Regarding Sansa, I initially thought that LF was suggesting that she use Brienne to protect herself from Arya, but others have suggested that he meant for her to use Brienne to kill Arya (to protect herself).  Getting rid of Brienne could be Sansa's way of preventing Brienne from being used to kill Arya...or it could be her way getting Brienne out of the way so that she cannot protect Arya.

And chains? The Others have giant chains now? Why? In case a dragon fell into a lake?

Your use of the word "giant" reminded me that they also have at least one ice giant.  Why was he missing from the battle?  He could have stepped over the water and crushed our heroes.

I gave this episode a 6.  Nice CGI but I didn't have the same fear as I did in the loot train battle.  I don't think the tension build up was as good in this case--perhaps because there were so many named characters involved who needed to be given lines and shown doing things.

And why did the NK kill the flying dragon, instead of the one that was conveniently stationary on the ground?  He would have stranded Dany and the rest too if he'd gone after Drogon.

8/10.

I will no longer wait for intelligent conversation, clever script and interesting relationships between the characters. I know I won't have that now, there's no books to back up these 3 things and they are doing things the fast, tv/fanservice way. I need to lower my expectations regarding the quality of the script, because it's not GRRM. That's what we will have now on.

So I'll give 8/10 because it was a fun and amusing episode. Nice CGI, I love seeing the dragons, nice fighting scene, I'm used to Dany/Jon and it was kinda nice interaction, the scenery was beautiful. Was it intelligent, believable script? No. But it was a good episode.

I'd give it a 4. What could have been a tremendously exciting episode was destroyed by some of the stupidest writing the show has ever put on screen.

At one point I thought I'd simply turn off the tv if the dragons came to a last minute rescue.. not expecting that the writers would stoop so low. But they actually did.

There are many things this season which require faith and for you to leave your brain at the door, but the thought that you could run to the wall for miles in thickest winter, send a raven across a continent, prepare and fly across the continent on a dragon and find a lake... all in the space of a day... it's moronic. Not to mention the plan that got them there in the first place.

The first time the show has truly upset me with its stupidity

Goodness me..?? I never thought I'd see the day. The dragon chains were unbelievable, as was the Night King not only having absolutely no fear of dragons, being an absolute demon Javelin thrower, and the fact that the ice Spear was a lot more powerful than dragon blood, scale, fire and magic, but oh well. Viserion dying so easily was just the 58th shark that needed jumping for the episode to conclude. I gave it a 4, but I admit that I watched it and Enjoy some aspects of it enough to keep me watching and somehow enjoying it. I have to suspend my disbelief and forget about the previous seasons, and drop my expectations that it will ever deserve its seasons 1 and 2 quality and standards
