Let's talk about Jaime...

In one episode (I believe in season 4 or 5) Jaime and Bronn on their way to Dornn for Mrycella, they talk about ways to die. Jaime says he wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves. I feel that the writers of that episode put that conversation in deliberately. Probably thinking we would think he meant Cersei, (which he may have at the time he said it) but I really think he is going to die in the arms of Brienne. Not sure how but I'm willing to bet that is how it will play out.

I'm also thinking that's how he will die in the books, because I think it's inevitable, he will die, but as we all know he finally realized what honor is and what a true knight really is, ( with Brianne's 'help' ) he will do something really really honorable, maybe by killing Cersei hand then somehow die for it.

His presence in WF is going to create so much tension between characters - how do you think it's going to pan out?

Jamie will tell Team Targaryen of Cerseis impending betrayal.

After that I'm not sure what will happen to him.

I'll tell you what is going to happen. He will fall in love with Sansa. Then, after Jon, Dany and Cersei will die, he's going to rule Westeros.

Jamie is about to die imo.  Bran remembers.  He killed Blackfish, made pact with Freys.  It's not good!  Is Jamie even thinking?  By himself?

You don't think he would be spared if he told everyone what Cersei's plans are?  What if he gives up his sword since it was forged from ICE?  Could ICE be reformed from Brienne and Jaime's swords?

Am I the only one who believes Jaime is "taking the black", as evidenced by the black cloak he was wearing? He would still be honoring his word by traveling north to fight the "real war."

That would be pointless, the WW are already south of the wall,  What's left of the Night's Watch should be running back to Winterfell to help fight there.

I'm just curious how Jamie is going to convince everyone in Winterfell he's not still working with Cersei? Everything he says about leaving her and wanting to join them is going to sound too good to be true.

Think about what he's going to tell them: Cersei plans to hire the GC and use them together with Euron to backstab everyone as soon as they're stuck in fighting with the dead. There's really no good reason to mistrust Jaime on this. The only reason Cersei would send Jaime to tell them that plan is if she had an even more evil plan, and… it's hard to imagine what that would be. Pretend to backstab them but then don't really backstab them so she can backstab them later instead? No, I'd believe Jaime that this is what Cersei is doing, and that he left to warn them about it.

I can see not trusting him very far beyond that issue, though. A guy who you already didn't trust, in part because he's an oathbreaker, has just broken an oath to come pledge to your side instead… how much is that pledge worth? I'd let him stick around, but I'm not sure I'd want him wandering armed around my castle, or fighting alongside my most important fighters in the battles to come.

I'm kind of interested in it from the perspective of who takes control of the Lannister armies.

Do they really need anyone to take control of the armies? Cersei can do all the grand strategy herself. Euron can be there in the battle scenes. We rarely see anyone doing tactical planning or anything, so does it matter that whoever's doing that off-screen is no longer a named character? And meanwhile, the Lannister forces are now going to be just a minor adjunct to the GC, who already have their own general, who I don't expect to be a new major character.

(I'm talking out-of-universe. Obviously in-universe, someone needs to head the Lannister forces, but it can be an unnamed Lannister general.)

Maybe Brienne will escort him to the trial DwD style. Only the Stark trio will participate, instead of Lady Stoneheart.

Who knows, maybe they will merge these plots.

Interesting.

Jaime is still useful to the north because of his battle experience and the fact that he knows the Lannister army's strengths and weaknesses. But a trial would be fun to watch.

But eventually there will have to be a fight. And it'd be pretty anti-climactic if we hardly have anyone we know on one side.

We have Euron, and the Mountain. We might even have Cersei, if the fight happens on her home turf. The fact that none of them are leading the army doesn't change that.

The only real problem is that we have nobody we actually root for on the other side, and Bronn would fix that. But I don't think every battle has to go that way just because Blackwater and FoF2 did. After all, most of the viewers didn't have anyone to root for on the other side in Hardhome. If it's the big climactic battle where the good guys finally triumph, it's ok if there are no sympathetic characters left on the losing side.

I feel Hardhome was different as the Night King still had his mystery, and it was less of a battle and more of a slaughter. The question wasn't could Jon and Co win, but how many of them could survive. Plus the White Walker Jon killed made an excellent knowable face.

It's not about rooting for each side, but the battle should feel meaningful, putting a known established character there does that. I must confess I'm not all that interested in seeing a bunch of heroes cutting through a swarm of faceless mooks.

But I'm now well of topic.

Jaime isn't going to make a very good soldier with a missing hand but he is an experienced battle commander and could be a decent General.  The combined forces in the North will need more than just Grey Worm, Dany, and Jon.  Who he would command however is a different story.  He is also too valuable to just kill by the Starks or Dany.  Cersei may disown him but who knows her better than Jaime?

I can't see Bronn staying behind in KL, leading the Lannister forces when they backstab the northern forces.
He has no loyalty nor love for Cersei, his loyalty at this point is to Jamie and Tyrion, and they're finally on the same team. As for Bronn actually surviving getting out of KL before heading north is a different question altogether.

Agreed. I'd be surprised if Bronn didn't leave KL. He has history and affection for Jaime, Tyrion and Pod. Cersei means nothing to him. Moreover, he's a mercenary and he knows Cersei will never pay up on his agreement with Jaime. If he wants his money he'll go north. If he wants to survive he'll go elsewhere. But i can't see any reason for him to stay with Cersei.

Plus, Lena and Jerome's contracts say they don't have to be together in a scene, so it's unlikely that that Bronn would side with Cersei :)

Bronn is a mercenary, and highly adept at figuring out risk vs reward. Going North holds a high risk with little reward (regardless of Tyrions boasts of paying double). Staying in the South working directly for Cersei is dangerous as she hates his guts, but could give good rewards. It would be somewhat safer to join the mercenary army that she has hired. He knows Westeros well and has actual command experience, so maybe that is the optimal path?

Well, I have to disagree.  Since Bronn is a mercenary, like the Iron Bank, he hasn't survived all this time by joining the losing side.... Arguably the dead could win, but then it would not matter lol, If they do not, which side has the bigger changes?  Dany with Dragons, Unsullied, Lannister forces, Northern forces, Vale forces (through Sansa) etc... or Cersei on her own with Kyburn and the UnMountain???  In a betting shop whoever put $10 on Cersei would become a millionaire if it were to come to pass!!!  This because odds in betting comes with probabilities lol  Bronn is way smarter than that!  He would only bet on Cersei if he had "inside knowledge" that was almost fool-proof! Cersei has lost Casterly and is very likely to lose the Red Keep, if not to enemies (too busy in the North) to the peasants for what she did in the Sept and when the food starts coming through.  Not even the Devil (with all his mythological power thrown at her) would side up with her at this stage!

Okay, maybe slightly off topic, I know this is about Jaime but, despite myself, I can only feel a little sorry for her.  Her own doing, sure, but she literally has no-one!

This season has gone full circle.  First, we had a super powerful Dany against a very weak Cersei, then a couple of battles went wrong and the tables switched and they have switched again...  I believe Cersei's only chance is the Night King... but we do not know what he wants... very risky business!
