if lyana had lived

what if lyanna had survived giving birth to jon? what might she have done? would she have taken jon and gone into hiding, like the supposed aegon? would she had just into exile like dany and viserys? would she have married robert? if so, why? to insure jon's safety? or maybe she just takes jon and goes home to winterfell?

Given her situation, I feel like the Kingsguard would have been honour bound to help her flee into exile, but more likely escort her safely to Winterfell where Ned would have seen to her protection. (Or seeing as Ned travelled to her, he would have taken her home himself.) Robert would have paid a hefty price for the baby's life, no matter the love he bore Ned and Lyanna, so they would have pretended he was the child of some local Winterfell girl.

Or they could just speak the truth and raise all Northern banners if Robert tried to ride north to take the baby... but Lyanna feeling into exile seems like the easiest option where at least she could take some wealth and raise Jon comfortably.

I think Ned would have taken his advice to Cersei and flee with her to the ends of the world.

Her only choice would have been to flee and adopt an assumed identity somewhere in Essos or Braavos. It's possible she might have been able to connect with Ser Willem Darry. Of course that would be an issue when Oberyn shows up to ink the deal betrothing Viserys and Arianne.

so if she went into exile with jon, would she have tried to be involved with the raising of viserys and daenerys as well as jon? and might ned have tried to send some sort of support to his sister? maybe smuggle funds to her or something?

If she had lived, then she would of had the chance to explain her side of the story to the realm at the very least. I believe that she still would have initially left the Tower of Joy and sneaked by to Winterfell with Ned. Either that, or she and Ned would of made their way to King's Landing, entrusting Howland Reed with the care of her newborn child.

With Ned at her side, there is no way Robert Baratheon would have not at least given her the chance to communicate her side of the story to him privately. If he couldn't live with whatever she told him, the worst punishment he could give her is a new job with the Silent Sisters. Still, knowing Robert, he probably would have just sent her home to Winterfell. On the other hand, he may have understood that she had fallen in love with another man and flat out forgiven her. Robert already had a few bastards at this point in time, so he might have accepted the fact that Lyanna is only human, just like himself, and forgiven her.

The latter of the two would probably have been the best outcome. Lyanna would have been able to read Robert's emotions well enough at this point in time to know whether or not she should spill the beans about the baby too. Things would have most likely been better off had Lyanna survived, but she didn't. This among many other things is what gives the novels so much depth. GRRM doesn't seem to want to write "...and they lived happily ever after." at the end of aDoS. I think we all respect that too.

I agree with those who say that Ned and Lyanna would have had hidden the baby under a false identity. There was no way Robert would have accepted this child out of love to Ned and Lyanna or politically.

Marrying Lyanna after what has happened would be a bad idea, because she would be associated with Targaryens, no matter if she was kidnapped or  went with Rhaeg willingly. Dorne would have been pissed even more if a new king would have married Lyanna the Housewrecker.

I think the most likely option would have been for Robert to leave Lyanna be, though it would hurt him, and marry someone else, who would support him. Like Cersei Lannister.

If Robert would still have married Lyanna their marriage would have been an unhappy one. Real Lyanna was far from Robert's image of her. She wouldn't be ok with his drinking and neglecting his royal duties and she wouldn't have gotten over him killing Rhaegar and being separated from her child.

And Robert wasn't a person who could provide love and empathy.

If Lyanna survived her ordeal at the Tower of Joy then:

1 - checks if rapechild alive, if yes goes to no.2, if not goes to no.3

2 - wrings its neck and moves on to no.3

3 - carcass goes into midden

4 - makes Ned promise her that is not getting married to anybody soon

5 - rides home with Dawn strapped to her saddle whistling "He licked her honey!"

Who knows? We still know so little about her and Rhaegar both. One thing to keep in mind though is that Lyanna was only 14 and still half a child when she disappeared with Rhaegar. She may have turned into a very different person if she lived to see her 20's.

That's a good question, and I'm afraid there's no easy answer. There's something to be said for making sure her son grew up around relatives but that would have made her and Jon easy targets as well. If Robert or anyone else was keeping tabs on Dany and Viserys, and a woman matching Lyanna's description shows up with a baby...things could get ugly.

Ned would definitely try and find some way to offer his sister support, if only quietly using back-channels to arrange her marriage to a powerful Essosi who could protect her and the baby, probably someone with Valyrian heritage who could claim the baby if his eyes went purple.

Rather than Essos I like the idea she would have snuck away with Howland and lived and raised Jon in the neck. They are reclusive there and we know Ned would trust Howland who already had a relationship with Lyanna. Ned would never need to raise a bastard but would still be able to visit his sister from time to time (with much care). When Jon was old enough Ned could carefully slip him into some suitable service somewhere.
