A Game of Thrones - Jon VIII

Awkwardly, Jon took the sword in hand. His left hand; his bandaged right was still too raw and clumsy. Carefully he pulled it from its scabbard and raised it level with his eyes.

The pommel was a hunk of pale stone weighted with lead to balance the long blade.

A Game of Thrones - Arya II

"It's too heavy," Arya said.

"It is heavy as it needs to be to make you strong, and for the balancing. A hollow inside is filled with lead, just so. One hand now is all that is needing."

A Game of Thrones - Arya V

The High Septon himself stood behind him, a squat man, grey with age and ponderously fat, wearing long white robes and an immense crown of spun gold and crystal that wreathed his head with rainbows whenever he moved

Storm of Swords - Arya IV

Only shards remained of its windows of leaded glass, and the aged septon who greeted them said the looters had even made off with the Mother's costly robes, the Crone's gilded lantern, and the silver crown the Father had worn. "They hacked the Maiden's breasts off too, though those were only wood," he told them. "And the eyes, the eyes were jet and lapis and mother-of-pearl, they pried them out with their knives. May the Mother have mercy on them all."

A Clash of Kings - Tyrion III

Two other girls sat playing at tiles before a leaded glass window. The freckled one wore a chain of blue flowers in her honeyed hair. The other had skin as smooth and black as polished jet, wide dark eyes, small pointed breasts. They dressed in flowing silks cinched at the waist with beaded belts. The sunlight pouring through the colored glass outlined their sweet young bodies through the thin cloth, and Tyrion felt a stirring in his groin. "I would respectfully suggest the dark-skinned girl," said Chataya.

A Clash of Kings - Tyrion III

The house was two stories tall, stone below and timber above. A round turret rose from one corner of the structure. Many of the windows were leaded. Over the door swung an ornate lamp, a globe of gilded metal and scarlet glass.

I believe it burns blue:

Nice.

Always wondered what the "smoke bubbles" part hinted towards, and how it could relate to the coloured flames. And what might this tell us about the Citadel? Other than a nod towards the Glass candles I'm not sure.

Am i the only one that finds it weird that Maesters have Valyrian steel that they're just some how able to make into links, that they can later add to some ones links. This just seems very odd and out of place given that supposedly Tobo Mott is the only one in Westeros said to be able to reforge Valyrian steel. Not even Aegon the Conqueror seemed to know how to make the steel, so who's doing this?

Great question man, the question of how the VS links are forged is certainly an overlooked curiosity of the Maester's mythology. One would think the Citadel may have studied the higher mysteries before making contact with Valyria, as the Maester's order was founded during the Age of Heroes, a period awash with supernatural fables. The VS link perhaps points towards Maester's study of the higher mysteries not coming untill well into the rise of the Freehold, but why would the "Knights of The Mind" purposely neglect such learning for so long?

If Westerosi figures were able to barter for swords from Valyria then maybe the Maesters, having began to implement study of higher mysteries to the curriculum, simply ordered a surplus of VS links, masks and rods.

Obviously very few can forge the Valyrian steel link. It would be much easier to forge a link than a large sword. Understanding enough of the magic to forge a small link that need not be sharp or even very strong is a huge difference from forging a whole sword.

Well in addition to the subjects we know ie healing,Magic,Maths, Astronomy, Ravens we have History (which is copper) since taught by Perestan.

The other disciplines which we could assume would be:

Geography and languages (possibly AM Gallard)

Agriculture

Building and masonry

Ship building

Alchemy/chemistry/alloy making

Music and poetry

Literature

Statecraft

Warcraft

Weather prediction
