If Danny Amendola had caught that pass while falling dick-first into the ground, I would have quit my job and become a nun.

Being a nun isn't as hot as the porn would make you believe.

Wow.  What  great Pats win.

Hugh Millen really came through after that 1st INT; was able to hit his dependable receivers.  I though Leonard Russell ran the ball well.  On D, Chris Slade and Vincent Brown both held the Bucs in check.

In all seriousness, the Pats D played great, the O-line and blocking schemes came close to getting Brady murdered, Brady played... fine... fine-ish, I guess.  But Danny Amendola was HUGE and so was Gillisslee and White.  But my allusions to Pats teams past is there fir a reason: back in 1991 etc I would be PUMPED when the Pats won a game ugly like this.  Why?  Because they never won!  Ugly OR Pretty.

But overall?  Something is going on on the Pats.  Gronk was a SUPER-late scratch.  Alan Branch- the stud nose tackle from last season - did not make the trip, a HEALTHY scratch.  There seems to be some difficulty brewing with the Pats.  And its not great.

So while I am happy they won... this is not a season-changing win.  It could still be a chilling vision of things to come.

Great? I thought the Pats looked awful. It's just that the Bucs were even more awful. And Jameis was simply terrible.

Also, is Brady going to die before the season is over?

Brady wasn't getting hit all that much more than a normal quarterback.  It's just he seems to be acquiring the RG3 syndrome where for whatever reason the hits seem to have more of an impact than they do on most guys.  Oh wait, did I say "for whatever reason"?  It's because he's 40 and 40 year old men do not react well to 250 pound dudes slamming into them.

If I were Belichick, I would seriously consider whether it makes sense to find a monthlong stretch to start Jimmy G. and save Brady's health for the playoffs.  The only downside is that if the defense doesn't improve* that might not be possible.

* Yes I Know that statistically the defense was better last night, but that was mostly a function of Winston's inaccuracy on intermediate routes.  And even still NE needed some terrible coaching decisions by Tampa and 3 missed field goals to win.

This is another really strong Thursday game.

Interesting.. I missed the middle of the game, but I saw the bookends, and my impression was not so positive. The Patriots basically won by only 5 points, in a game where the Buccs missed 3 field goals, and where Jameis Winston played like shit until meaningless garbage time at the end.

It was not a well played game, but nonetheless relatively exciting and competitive.  Compared to a lot of TNF games where one team just completely fails to show up, this is better than average.  For example, last year, 6 of the 14 TNF games were decided by 15+ points.

Idk, it seemed like he was taking a beating, and he took a couple of nasty hits to the knees, plus he’s getting hit a lot this year. He can’t protect himself in the pocket anymore. But otherwise I totally agree. A while back I posted a sports science article which concluded that the Pats benefited a lot from Brady’s suspension, because older QBs decline rapidly after the 15th game they play in a season. The Pats would benefit from giving Handsome Jimmy a few starts here and there, and it might turn out that he’s better than Brady at this point.

Brady has been sacked 16 times already this season and hit 33 times, which is the 3rd most in the league. That probably isn't sustainable for Brady over the course of the rest of the season. Might also explain why he's a bit more 'panicky' in the pocket though he didn't look that spooked to me personally.

If you go back and read my post  and, I agree, there is no point in doing that - I made the comment RIGHT BEFORE mentioning players from the Pats from 1990-1995: in other words, when the Pats sucked and every win  - the few there were - was ugly, shitty and painful.  So when I said "Great Pats Win" what I meant was "Great Pats Win for When The Pats Sucked" and compared that win to those teams back then.  That's what I meant.

Because that game sucked balls.

But it was better than a loss.

He has been hit more than most other QBs and certainly more than in other seasons.  I think that for the most part its terrible blocking.  But I also think Brady is missing targets he SHOULD be hitting and the lack of good targets.  But he's getting drilled out there.

I mean he's already been sacked more this season than all of 2016, so yeah. As for the rest Brady was ranked 2nd in QBR and 1st in DYAR going into week 5, but we can see how that pans out after everybody else has played.

I think he's also starting to see ghosts and react too early to the pressure. That clearly happened on the interception. He was going to get hit either way, but the Brady that ran the league would have waited a little longer and thrown a better ball.

Hey folks. A couple weeks ago I went way out of line insulting sperry. I was wrong and apologize to him for that. While I don't regret a sharp retort, I needlessly went personal and nasty. I recognize I have a habit of doing that, and I've been a dick to others in a similar way here. I apologize to the people I have insulted, and I apologize to the readers of this thread in general for fouling up a fun and active topic. I will do my best to keep from repeating my mistakes.
