We see this many times, for example, in the narrative of the Conquest included in The World of Ice and Fire, where there are many references to "Aegon and his two queens". Also, there were many illegit children on Dragonstone as they had relations with others for their own pleasure etc but they wanted the royal line pure so as to control their dragons better.
