Sanders ran in the Democratic primary, he was allowed to do so, and while legally the DNC is a private organization and can do whatever it wants, voters expect that the primary will be an honest contest between candidates without the DNC's thumb on the scale. The Democrats, like Clinton, absolutely must learn that perceived fairness and optics matter and that an awful lot of their voters hold their noses to vote for them, or they are going to continue to lose elections.
