Would Kit Harrington produce a show where his character dies at the end if that was also the fate that awaited another character he is famous for portraying? Yeah - it's very much a passion project for him. He got the show off the ground (I remember him talking about it a year ago on the Andrew Marr show) and his friend was the writer (although i vaguely recall he has a personal connection to the writer???) The show is pretty good. I'd read a decent book on the era recently and it did capture a lot of it well. The Catholics really were persecuted and it's easy to draw modern parallels with oppressed people taking extreme measures. The good thing was that they didn't shy away from it still being an act of terrorism. I had expectations that this would be interesting, as well as funny and entertaining in a weird way because it’s Arwen and Jon Snow in the same show, but I thought the first episode was insanely flat and boring. Also it was trying to reach up to other shows of this category by bringing in the trusty old torture porn guns. (Which is okay by my stomach, but only as long as it pairs with a captivating story, which I haven’t seen so far) I’m willing to give it another chance, of course, but I need to be in the right mood, and I still have a bunch of other things to catch up on in the historical fiction category. I really dug the juxtaposition that occurred when Catesby and Wintour traveled to Spain to seek aid, and the Catholics there were burning a Jewish woman at the stake... It was odd seeing Peter Mullan not being the villain....lol Considering that Nina Gold cast this show... i would not be surprised to see Tom Cullen (Guy Fawkes) cast as a young Robert Baratheon ... With the talk of all the torture and gore I'm wondering if I caught an edited version on HBO. There was barely any torture and what was shown was fairly tame.
