Morpheus
15 minutes ago, Kalbear said: We've already seen Sanders do this. He backed a Democrat who was pro-life, as an example, and he backed another with racist views on the record. I don't think that he doesn't care about these things, but he genuinely believes that racism, sexism, bigotry all come from economic inequality, and genuinely believes that the best way to fight all of that is via socialism. Despite massive evidence to the contrary about Trump's voters, of course. After the election, Sanders blamed identity politics for hurting Dems, in the context of the 2016 election, that means rural whites were turned off by discussions of race and LGBT+ issues. He is at least willing to play the game and pretend those issues are of lesser importance, which may net him some Trump voters, but there is a reason he didn't connect as much with black voters, for instance. I never really understood why black Americans did not massively get on board socialism (something the FBI was genuinely afraid of in the sixties). It would actually address most of the issues the poorest segments of their community have to deal with while being potentially more consensual than racial politics. But I guess the answer is in the question already... The masters of the world have always favored racial politics because they're far less threatening to their interests. I'm not black, but I suspect that, in actual implementation, a socialist system would still short-change black people as well. Just like the New Deal and the GI Bill didn't get equally applied. So I can see why the community would be suspicious of economic-only remedies.

I guess racial discrimination and racial politics fuel each other in an endless vicious circle.
Mr. Chatywin et al.
1 hour ago, Mexal said: The risk that this gets out of hand is great. To deny or ignore that is simply naive. Do I think women should be believed? Yes. Do I think if there are a number of credible, on the record allegations with contemporaneous corroboration, then the person should resign or be fired? Yes. Without that, you run the risk of what Warlock of Quarth said above and that one party will weaponize it against the other and that is not good. Agreed. The Garrison Keillor case, if he is to be believed, is a great example of this. He claims that all he did was touch a woman’s bare back while trying to console her, and when she rejected his advance he apologized, she accepted it and they both went on with their lives. Week
Government funding runs out at the end of the day tomorrow. Are we really thinking that Republicans can get out of their own way quickly enough to get a 2 week extension (at minimum) passed for Trump to sign? Hey, I care about you colored folks because I marched during the 60s and was apart of sit ins in favor of you guys being treated like equal citizens. I haven't done fuck all for you since and think your issues of being targeted by institutional racism are not as important as class issues, please vote for me, but wait until I gather the racist not racists that had no issue voting for a klan and nazi endorsed candidate. They have a median household income of $72,000 and are really economically struggling and anxious.

Maithanet
Not that one poll matters all the much, but this is the worst poll yet from a credible pollster. Pew Research Center has Trump's approval disapproval at 32/63. That -31 net disapproval is down 6 points from October, and down 19 points from his best Pew poll in early March. The decline is happening across the board, but it is actually most pronounced amongst moderate Republicans and white evangelicals.

AZ-8 is super conservative. It was Giffords' old district though so you never know (it does appear to have changed a fair bit since being redistricted after 2010). He was an early Trump support who got some national attention a few years ago for suggesting that pregnancies that are cause by rape are rare so women don't need abortion protections from them. Great guy...... 7 minutes ago, Dr. Pepper said: Probably a gay affair. Gay affairs tend to be the one things the Republicans drop for. That would be rich.
