There was also the whole bridge, drowned crow, Balon Greyjoy incident...

Was Balon killed by the same faceless man that paid Arya’s debt? I don't think so. That would have required Euron to have prayed for Balon's gift well before Eddard was beheaded, which was nearly a year before Balon fell.

It’s hard to know, doubly so since they, you know, keep changing their faces... I prefer the idea of having as few faceless men running around as possible, but that’s really just a personal preference for simplicity, not based in the text.

Or the order to kill Balon is simply comunicated to an agent in Westeros.

One who has perhaps been idling about playing with a little wolf/weasel/girl since his last task.

If Euron paid with a dragon’s egg, as some suspect, it may also explain the no-one swinging through Old Town and “paying” Pate a visit afterwards.

You are mistaken. He said he was going far and away, across the Narrow Sea, for he had duties too. Since they were at Harrenhal, he would most likely have made for Saltpans or Maidenpool to take ship to Braavos.

You're right, he didn't told her that he will go to Oldtown.

But you're also wrong, he didn't told her that he will go to Braavos, or to Essos, or across the Narrow Sea -

Quote

“Show me,” she blurted. “I want to do it too.”

“If you would learn, you must come with me.”

Arya grew hesitant. “Where?”

“Far and away, across the narrow sea.”

“I can’t. I have to go home. To Winterfell.”

“Then we must part,” he said, “for I have duties too.”

The meaning of what he said, is that if she wants to learn his skills, she will have to go with him across the Narrow Sea. Though it didn't meant, that he was planning to go there NOW.

At that moment he changed his face to face of alchemist.

ACOK, Arya 9:

Quote

Jaqen passed a hand down his face from forehead to chin, and where it went he changed. His cheeks grew fuller, his eyes closer; his nose hooked, a scar appeared on his right cheek where no scar had been before. And when he shook his head, his long straight hair, half red and half white, dissolved away to reveal a cap of tight black curls.

AFFC, Prologue:

Quote

“Show me your face.”

“As you wish.” The alchemist pulled his hood down.

He was just a man, and his face was just a face. A young man’s face, ordinary, with full cheeks and the shadow of a beard. A scar showed faintly on his right cheek. He had a hooked nose, and a mat of dense black hair that curled tightly around his ears.

Faceless Men are rich, but even they wouldn't waste money on going back and forth between Westeros and Essos several times per year. Why would he go across the Narrow Sea, just to go back across it to Oldtown?

He didn't just swinged though Old Town - he killed Pate in Prologue of AFFC, and from then on, and until Sam's arrival to Citadel, he was impersonating Pate for entire length of that book.

I completely agree with what you said, I was just suggesting he may have paid Balon a visit on his way to Old Town. Didn’t mean to imply brevity in no-one’s stay in Old Town, as you pointed out he is still there when Sam gets there.

Oh my sweet summer child...

Arya IX, Clash 47

You might interpret it differently, but the clear meaning was that was leaving to cross the narrow sea.

I disagree, I think he was simply talking about Braavos, where the Iron Coin takes Arya.

It seems clear that the no-one who kills Pate is wearing the same face as post-Jaqen-no-one. We’re not sure he would have brought Arya straight there anyway, or maybe he would have delayed his mission to escort Arya to the House of White and Black... it’s impossible to say.

I think the most likely explanation is that he was leaving to cross the narrow sea, back to Braavos, and he turned up later at Oldtown, but I agree that wording is open to different interpretations.
