Lord Lannister
Fathers usually decide their children's marriage pacts and what makes a suitable match is going to vary by the family and individual. Tytos Lannister married his daughter Genna to a Frey. Tywin hated it, seeing it as beneath his family.
Trigger Warning
The Frey marriage was not only a marriage to a much less prestigious house but also a marriage to a second son. The daughter of the Lord of Casterly Rock would be one of the most prestigious matches in the Seven Kingdoms and the Frey marriage basically got them nothing in return, the reasons of course will be different for every single marriage. Lord of Oldstones
Families like Lannister have high value bcuz of their name prestige and wealth there’s no problem for a main line Lannister marrying Frey heir destined to inherit lordship But marrying some 3rd/2nd son isn’t normal for such family. And Baelish are family without good lineage, prestige, wealth(they just have few stones sheeps & ruined tower)and status they’re like a petty Lord (4th Tier House )& totally unsuitable for high lords to marry into.
