Anyone here reading the comic book series based on ASOIAF?

I tried reading it some days ago. I find that the pacing is quite strange, i.e. the scenes do not portray what is happening in a satisfactory manner. I don't know how a person who has had no exposure to the books or show would fare following the plot. Also, I feel that the art is a bit off, the faces and expressions seem strange. What do you think?

Spoiler

Interestingly, there is a scene where Ned remembers the "Promise me, Ned" quote by Lyanna, and we get a scene with Ned holding Lyanna's hand by a bed. Despite being a comic based on the books presumably, we still have a strong indication of R+L=J.

Well the illustrations are nice. And I like how it's trying to purely stick to what had happened in the original books and add their own stuff now and again.

I read the first couple of volumes of collected comics. I decided not to go forward with the other books in the series. Not my cup of tea. I already gave away the first volumes to a niece who likes graphic novels.

I found some of the illustrations off-putting: I know there is this comic book "ideal" of buxom women with pouty mouths, but I didn't like seeing ASOIAF characters presented in that form. It won't surprise people in this forum to hear that I also was frustrated at the important details left out of the abridged version - I read the original novels for detail and layered meaning, so it was unsatisfying to find so much important stuff left out.

On the other hand, the things that were left in helped me to focus on details I might have otherwise missed. Maybe GRRM told them to leave in certain things because they will be important to the plot at a later point. (Can't think of an example off the top of my head, but I remember noting one or two as I as reading.)

If so how do you find it?

I bought used copies off the Internet. If you have a favorite book retailer in mind, go to their search function and type in something like "graphic novel A Song of Ice and Fire".

You could probably also get them through inter-library loan. Check your library website or talk to a librarian to find out whether they have the graphic novels on hand or can borrow them from another library.

I should add, I liked the Dunk & Egg graphic novels more than the ASOIAF graphic novels. I have less invested in those characters, I guess, or maybe a different set of artists and writers put them together.

I heard that George said that he didn't like how characters are drawn.

I gotta agree with that one. For one, they switched the eye that Waymar Royce lost when a piece of his sword got lodged in his eye. Not to mention, I didn't think Daenerys was as busty as the comic portrays her.

Yeah I've seen literal fan art that seems closer to the mark than comic-book Dany. But to be fair, not a lot of leg room to draw a seemingly 13 year old girl in very sexual situations. I mean I'm pretty sure  like the show they were worried about someone saying its child porn

Personally, i don't like how Little Walder is drawn, because he doesn't look to me like someone who would be Ramsay fanboy.

Well, he's not Ramsay's fanboy yet, and this shouldn't be apparent apart from being a bully.
