The Marquis de Leech
10 minutes ago, OldGimletEye said: And then of course by now, we should know that markets don’t clear leading to aggregate demand failures and the Robert Lucas RBC type models of the world ie “the market will correct itself” are simply wrong, meaning that government action can improve the state of affairs. And certainly we should know by know that super rational homo economicus doesn’t price assets correctly, though evidently conservatives can’t make their minds up on this issue, seemingly believing it when it’s convenient to blame poor minority people for housing crises, but then switching their opinion when conducting asset mispricing concern trolling when they don’t like monetary policy, but then switching yet back again to super rational homo economicus when attacking Dodd-Frank. Also, I’d be remiss that this year’s winner of the Nobel Prize was Richard Thaler whose work was mainly in behavioral economics, which rejects the model of super rational homo economicus. Confession: while economics was always my best academic subject in school, I abandoned it after a couple of years at university because I became heartily sick of giving the answer the (right-wing) question wanted, even though I knew full well it was nonsense. The idea of spending the rest of my life rebutting RBC numbskulls did not appeal to me, so I pursued history instead.

Mindwalker
This argument could have stopped after "yeah, infant-mortality, but what's a child's life compared to FREEDOM". Freedom, of course, always being directly proportional to one's wealth, but that's the correct definiton of freedom anyway, right?

And their record-low rates of crime, political corruption and inequality? Oh, and higher quota of millionaires per citizen, in case you were going to resort to some silly argument about socialism quelling the opportunity for businesses and entrepreneurship. But they are not purely socialist. They are a blend of captialism and socialism.
OldGimletEye
Libertarians think they are the mullet of political philosophy, to wit: They have an economically conservative business front end, but it's a socially liberal party in the back! Nah, what a joke. They are mainly guys that like Trump and sit around pissed off about the South losing the Civil War and think Democracy should be replaced with aristocracy or something. Isn't that true of every country? Your government may not provide you with as much as their government does, but no country is truly at either end of that spectrum. Martell Spy
Quote Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page bragged that he was an adviser to the Kremlin in a letter obtained by TIME that raises new questions about the extent of Page’s contacts with the Russian government over the years. The letter, dated Aug. 25, 2013, was sent by Page to an academic press during a dispute over edits to an unpublished manuscript he had submitted for publication, according to an editor who worked with Page. “Over the past half year, I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda,” the letter reads. It's almost as if they couldn't face the success stories of socialism. Anyway, socialism and capitalism seem to need/complete each other. At least in our day and age, at this point in our species' evolution.

Ice Queen
I have always wondered if fascism is the natural outcome of capitalism. Alternatively, plutocracy and oligarchy. As wealth is concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, aided and abetted by lovely tax cuts that funnel more and more money upwards, fewer people have access to power. That's the opposite of democracy.
