Football - Stolen Taxi for Pardew

City are cruising against Everton.  3-0 now.

Newcastle may have done just enough today to be safe.  That narrow win over Huddersfield puts them at 35 points, with 36 the projected level for survival.  They’ve won three of their last four, including the win against Utd.  Their remaining games are all against teams above them in the table, except for a home game against WBA.  They should be able to get ar least a couple of points from remaining games if Lascalles stays fit.

Anyone below the Toon is still at risk but the current bottom three have the toughest route to safety based on existing points deficit, remaining fixtures, form and goal-scoring potential.

Our goal difference is probably worth another point as well.

Sevilla's counter attacking has been scintillating in the 2nd half. They are carving Barca open almost at will on the counter. Leading 2-0 now but really they should be 4-0 up - missed a couple of sitters and more. Don't understand why Ben Yedder is on the bench since he seems to be their most reliable finisher. It's an end-to-end game though and Barca are creating chances as well so all those misses could still end up costly for Sevilla.

ETA. as predicted, Barca have scored two goals in under a minute. 2-2 now with Barca looking the more likely.

ETA 2. game ends 2-2. Sevilla will be massively disappointed. They outplayed Barca for 85 minutes and should have buried them with all the chances they created (and missed) and then threw it away after that.

Muriel should not be starting ahead of Ben Yedder. Montella needs to sort that one out.

If Robbie Keane could score buckets of goals for LA Galaxy then I’m pretty sure Zlatan will stack up ridiculous numbers.  Only problem is how few good passes will reach him, so he’ll need to take advantage of scraps (as he did with this one).

yeah.  toon look safe to me.

We still have unlimited potential to f'ck it up though.  But we do seem to have found some form at exactly the right time.

I really hope Spurs get a result at Chelsea today, i really like the idea of Chelsea not getting a champions league place next year.

Benítez has done a great job with the squad he’s got at Newcastle. Maybe a second straight season in the Premier League will convince someone to buy the club.

It’s not looking great for Southampton, they really could have done with beating West Ham and they got spanked.

Nice goal from Ibrahimovic.

Yeah, really hope that the ownership situation at Newcastle gets sorted out. They are a big club with a top class manager and shouldn't have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel, struggling for loan deals and looking for players on the cheap. Rafa will leave if that continues to be the case and it's unlikely that the club will find someone better. He's done a great job there.

That was some truly horrific defending from Chelsea. Top four might be done and dusted if this result holds. Not the most exciting PL season from a look at the table stand point.

Definitely a dull PL season.

Having said that, there aren't many european top leagues which managed to be entertaining this season, from a table-contest POV. Barça, Bayern & PSG both locked up their domestic league quite early, even though the battle for the podium in Spain is nowhere near burried, with Atletico, Real and Valencia in a basket of 3pts.

The title race in Italy was entertaining at some point, but by now it looks like Juve is going to win it again.

Podium race was something to be seen in France too (OM vs OL vs Monaco), despite being overall less media-covered and discussed.
