Pompeo is 100% a Trump stooge, so be prepared for a SOS with the same low competency but even more subservient bootlicking.

Hard to imagine what the difference would be.  I guess he could change from Tillerson's "do nothing, look ineffectual" to "to support the president in all things", but that isn't a distinction I much care about.  Methinks that Trump just tweeted the announcement today because there is plenty of other news (House Intel charade and PA-18) so it won't get much attention.

Trump didn’t tell Tillerson himself. He sent an underling. Goes back to what I said awhile ago when Trump told McGahn to fire Sessions or Mueller (I forget), that Trump, when forced to fire people himself, will refuse to do it until he can get someone to do it for him.

One thing about this seems odd to me. Given the special election, you’d think he would want the top headline to be that the House Intel Committee has cleared him and his campaign of any wrong doing. Announcing Tillerson’s firing obscures that and makes the Administration look even more chaotic, given the other recent departures.

So more shit coming out about Tillerson. The WH is saying Tillerson was told on Friday but a State Dept spokesperson is saying Tillerson found out today when Trump tweeted it. I’m sure the latter is true, especially given Trump didn’t tell Tillerson himself and Tillerson was in Africa on Friday.

Also this happened. McEntee was really close to the Trump family so there is definitely a story here.

CNN says something came up on his security clearance. Another wife/girlfriend beater?

But not to worry, he’s joining the 2020 campaign team.

Trump also just came out and said this:

https://twitter.com/BBCBreaking/status/973554768189599744

Which lends some amount of credence to the "Tillerson only found out about it today, Trump's story about firing him on Friday is a lie, it's about the Russia thing" story.

But it could still go either way.

Yea but reports said he was escorted out immediately and wasn’t even allowed to collect his belongings. Someone had to go back for his jacket. Whatever it was, it’ll be an interesting story.

My God, the woman nominee for CIA director, ‘a fine person I’ve gotten to know very well’, ran the torture program and was responsible for trying to get torture videos destroyed.

eta: Gina Haskell (sp?)

Will she get confirmed????

And Trump also said this morning that his cabinet is almost where he wants it, so who else is getting fired? I bet Mattis gets fired long before DeVos.

She will get confirmed because Republicans don’t give a fuck about any of that. At that time, torture was totally ok.

On the plus side, she’s a career CIA officer who was also deputy of Russia House and doesn’t have any Love there. She also seems respected within the agency. So we will see.

Gotta love the “once we get the facts straight, if we agree with them” line. Nothing creepy about that at all…..

Yeah, I mean, being a career person is the best you can hope for under Trump and, like, it's the CIA. I don't expect them not to torture people so this isn't like a shocker.

Well it was pretty damn controversial when the facts came out, especially the torture pictures from the prisons and the details about guards walking prisoners on dog leashes and carrying tazers around. And waterboarding. Remember waterboarding? And how it got banned? Of course Trump believes waterboarding is a-ok.

I've seen a couple of article suggesting the point of this attack, which it seems was always going to be traced back to Russia, was to test NATO unity.

If the US is going fail to back what is supposed to be it's closest ally in a situation like this (after not really doing anything about Russian interference in the US elections) it looks like the lesson is going to be that Russia has a hell of a lot of license to do whatever it wants.

Lost in all the Tillerson news is the fact that the US government has blocked a huge deal, Broadcom’s aquisition of Qualcomm. Qualcomm has now become a company virtually no one can acquire, because of it’s importance to the US.. 5g communications.

And that CIA woman is Gina Haspel. She of ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’.

Remind me of past issues - wasn’t a Bush era Justice department lawyer or lawyers fingered for writing a memo in support of ‘enhanced interrogation’, and lost a job or promotion?

And best unfortunate quote from a loyal State Department employee to a reporter yesterday - Rex Tillerson is not going anywhere, he’s the Secretary of Stay.
