Republican Campaign Message: We Had to Jack Up Your Insurance Premiums to Help the Poor

Republicans in Congress have already formulated a plan to explain away the disaster their party engineered, reports Caitlin Owens. And the plan, astonishingly, is to explain to their voters that higher premiums is the necessary sacrifice they must make to help relieve low-income households of the burden of paying the individual mandate:

The strategy, per a senior House GOP aide: “Every time it is brought up, use that as an opportunity to remind voters who paid the mandate tax. It was people who already couldn’t afford [health care]. Not people choosing not to purchase. Most immoral tax we had.”

Although the October premium hikes will be a “big problem,” they can be spun: “Premiums going up is a ‘hey let’s chat about tax reform’ moment. But if mandate [repeal] contributes to higher premiums, it means that they were artificially made lower on the backs of low income individuals,” the aide said.

See, I’d predict just the opposite. A quick Google search suggest the UK birth rate is declining, and IIRC, immigrants from developing countries have much higher birth rates, and I’m sure that would continue in their new Western home. And on top of that, the UK has two additional problems: a lack of space and the potential for the UK to disband.

But you seem to be agreeing with me rather than saying the opposite. I said there will be more immigrants from developing countries, with higher birthrates. You disagreed with me and then said the same thing. The lack of space is an issue, but the UK disbanding won't make much difference to the trajectory, as the increase is expected almost wholly in England anyway.

And with that, I'll try and end the hijacking of the thread.

Too many men:

Washington Post paywall --

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/world/too-many-men/?utm_term=.3abcf548a63d

Quote:
Nothing like this has happened in human history. A combination of cultural preferences, government decree and modern medical technology in the world’s two largest countries has created a gender imbalance on a continental scale. Men outnumber women by 70 million in China and India.

The consequences of having too many men, now coming of age, are far-reaching: Beyond an epidemic of loneliness, the imbalance distorts labor markets, drives up savings rates in China and drives down consumption, artificially inflates certain property values, and parallels increases in violent crime, trafficking or prostitution in a growing number of locations.

Those consequences are not confined to China and India, but reach deep into their Asian neighbors and distort the economies of Europe and the Americas, as well. Barely recognized, the ramifications of too many men are only starting to come into sight.

Who would have thought that the Germans would have such problems with germinating?

Now, now. I hardly think that discussions of seeds sprouting is germane to the topic at hand.

YAAAAAAAY

Heitkamp is going to make sure we get Mike Pompeo as our Sec State!

Make sure to send her thank you phonecalls, guys.

202-224-2043

That's her office phone number. Call early and call often! I'm going to get a nerd I know to set up a little robot on my computer that will repeatedly dial politicians while I'm playing videogames so I can leave messages.

Joe Manchin will fold soon and we can add him to the rotation.

ETA: Make sure you have a city and a zip code ready to go, obviously, guys. We don't want to harass public leeches halfassed now.

Bismark is the capitol (that's just weird), and here's a list of zip codes: 58501    58503     58504

It's fun! I even got the same guy twice and he apologized to ME for asking for my zip code the second time when I threw on an old lady voice.

Google is a powerful tool my friends.

I love how Republicans like to play the 'youre paying for the poor' card nonstop.  It's like, if you're so interested in helping the working class, how come you suck at it soooooool much.  I mean the Democrats suck at it too, but it's like you guys are on completely separate planes of sucking at helping the lower classes.  Like, the Democrats are actively bad at helping it, while the Republicans are enthusiastic about being willfully destructive of it.

Meh.  If Pompeo isn't confirmed someone equally terrible will be nominated in his place.  He's more qualified than Tillerson was.

And unless you're secretly from North Dakota, I doubt she much cares about your opinion.  Most senators take pride in ignoring the protests of out of staters.

Yeah but it's fun! I just had them on the line for 57 seconds while a confused intern tried to get Dr. Dre's message written down.

If nothing else you can spread your suffering. It's like therapy, but bad. And twisted.

Like our government!

Pompeo is a situation where you have a major upcoming Foreign policy event and not having a Sectretary of State will be really bad. He also has done some groundwork already.

I will be pleased if they can stop Haspel being approved for the CIA.

Yeah, I guess. The need to have a dangerous piece of shit in charge of diplomacy ahead of a meeting between two dangerous pieces of shit that will accomplish nothing is so pressing that we should be thankful his gay hating ways will allow him to be friends with all of the worst world leaders!

That's assuming his outright racism doesn't get in the way first.

Honestly Korea peninsula can be a case where Trump just decided that no kind of discussion is just dumb can be right. Getting rid of NK nukes and an official end to the War will be good and will like to see the best chance for it to work.

It is a real shame he decided different on Cuba and North Korea being viewed as "better" than Cuba should give people real pause. Cuba though is also a case of Imperial ownership and that is hard to quit.

I'm just being morbid, forgive my dark ways.

I wish some billionaire would decide to reach out to Cuba and bring them into the fold now that they're having a bit of wiggle out from under a Castro.

Porn Stars are more Conservative and Republican than people will think.

I would think the consumers of the stuff are more likely to be conservative and Republican. Forbidden fruit is always the tastiest.

For Christ's sake, do we really need to make pornography consumption a partisan issue? Talk about polarization. It seems pretty ubiquitous to me, and there are probably a bunch of better demographics one could use to accurately delineate its consumption than political affiliation.

I think many view themselves in Libertarian terms. Many still come from Conservative families and can carry some ideas while discarded others.

Also, Pornography is still a business and does have taxes.

On a non-sequinter response, did not know Zach Snyder prior work in Porn. Now I have to wonder when I saw slo-mo if that was his work.
