Official Casting: The Starks

Rules for this topic:

1) No discussion! This is a thread to post your suggestion(s) for actors to play the roles of various members of House Stark. Non-sticky threads created by you and other posters are there for discussion instead.

2) Keep it brief. Provide an IMDB link, official webpage link, a brief explanation for why you'd think they'd be a good in a role, that sort of thing, but don't go overboard!

3) Keep in mind that we're interested in serious casting suggestions. $20 million a film stars will not be in the TV series as regulars. Think television actors NOT already involved as a lead in currently on-going series, Hollywood actors who've made forays into TV before and might do it again, and so on.

Eventually, we may run polls to figure out the "cream of the crop" and write nice, shiny official forum reports concerning these actors. But the main thing is, keep the ideas coming.

This is great! I'm going to throw out my choice for Eddard Stark, I haven't heard anyone else suggest him in other threads and he seems perfect for me:

Jason Patric

Right age. Known, but not a big star (although he should be). More or less fits the description. Excellent actor.

The fact that he was a lead on Rome, and played a somewhat similar character to boot, may make this very unlikely, but personally I think Kevin McKidd would be a great Eddard Stark.

For Eddard Stark, I'll suggest John Lynch, technically too old but I think it could work especially since Ned's air is like that anyway (I mean, he's greying at 35). Plain face and manner, has gravity but not in a strutting alpha male way which I think is all wrong. Not a big star. I remember some serious and dour and rather fatherly roles of his.

Since we first heard about the show option by HBO, the idea of Rachel Hurd-Wood playing Sansa has been a favorite.

This is largely based on her magnificent performance in the period drama, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and as Wendy Darling in the popular 2003 movie of Peter Pan.

Sadly, all my wished choices for the Starks are big names (Liam Neeson, Diane Lane, Emma Watson, Jamie Bell), so I'm only gonna suggest Benjen.

Jeremy Sisto for Benjen Stark

Familiar face on HBO from Six Feet Under. He has a Law and Order show now, but Benjen's is a small role.

Sean Bean does seem a viable option, especially considering he would only be in it for a single season.

For Jon I was thinking Skandar Keynes, the kid who played Edmund in the Chronicles of Narnia. Unlike most of the other kids in the franchise he is showing a lot of talent as an actor and he looks young enough to play the fourteen year old Jon, even though he's seventeen. Hasn't done many movies or TV outside the Narnia films so it could be a good chance for him to expand in other areas.

Definitely Sean Bean for Eddard. He fits the part perfectly, looks like Eddard should, has shown he has no objections to a fantasy project with Lord Of The Rings. His star level is probably ideal for the show, he is well known enough to generate interest with the general public and (I would assume) not above the series budget. He has also shown that he can do period with Sharpe.

Bean for the win!

Eddie Redmayne (British actor last seen as Angel Clare in Tess of the Ds) has the right look for Rob Stark (Stark/Tully blood) and looks like a teenager about to turn into a man. Would look good with a direwolf! Done plenty of period drama as well and as he's British he should be cheap as chips.

I was going to recommend that one. He's great as "Nemo" in Bleak House. I thought he had just the right look.

Interesting choice, and a good one. He's also has been doing a guest spot on Entourage the past couple of weeks - which means he's also already on HBO's radar.

I had thought, though, that a pretty large consensus of us had alighted on either James Purefoy or Kevin McKidd from ROME as favorites for the Eddard role. Both would fill the role wonderfully, though each would bring something different to it. Purefoy also played The Black Prince in A KNIGHT'S TALE, which is a role maybe a bit closer to Eddard - not quite the bastard that his Marc Anthony was in ROME.

I'd love to see Alexis Denisof as a Stark or maybe someone from the Watch. He's very talented, has the dark looks and has had plenty of practise with an English accent thanks to Angel and living in London for 13 years. :P

He also shouldn't be busy with any other project.
