NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs

BLU-RAY

So, the Rangers take the first two from Washington behind nice team D and great goaltending from Lundqvist (well, at least, they played good D and had good goaltending in this game). Pretty sick. Some ESPN guy commented after game one that Boudreau was overplaying his top guys (specifically Ovechkin and Semin), and that they were taking far too much time per shift (something like 1:20 when a standard NHL playoff shift is what, 45 seconds?).

I'm going to go back into the other thread and copy all of the predictions into a post in this one, so that we don't have to flip between them and keep digging the other one up.

I had mentioned a playoff pick 'em before, so if everyone wants I can put together the picks that have already been put out there and any others posted before game time tomorrow and keep track of the numbers. I think its easiest to just pick each round, since the re-seeding makes a bracket (a) difficult and (b) not much fun in a hurry.

5 pts for each correct series and a bonus pt. for number of games sound fair?

Eastern Conference

Bruins - Canadiens Boston in 6.

New York Rangers over Washington

New Jersey over Carolina

Philadelphia over Pittsburgh

San Jose over Anaheim

Columbus over Detroit

Vancouver over St. Louis

Calgary over Chicago

After one game, many elite players should be able to shake off a loss. At least that's what I'm hoping as the Sharks need to wake up and really show up tomorrow.

But after two straight losses, psychology becomes an important factor. Some players might get nervous, start thinking 'Will we ever be able to solve that goalie?' and not be able to perform on their usual level. The real leaders need to step up at that point.

Goddamn Lundqvist. Second game Washington should have won but didn't because of goaltending (though to be fair, Theodore played well today). Stop trying to take one of the most fun teams to watch out of the playoffs!

It wasnt Theodore, it was his backup, a kid in his first playoff game.

Ha. Things make so much more sense now.

Last night's game against the Bruins was brutal; we had some good things going offensively, but our defence was awful and our goaltending even worse (at least in the first two periods, before Halak came on). Gainey needs to play Halak tomorrow. Tim Thomas is too good and Price too inconsistent to give him another chance now.

Man, the Pens handed that game to Philly today.

Don't get me wrong, Philly played really well, but the Pens played like hot garbage. At some points they looked like a midget team out there. Just running around out of position. Blargh.

Sorry Wedge! :D The Canucks kicked some butt, and both goalies made some great saves. Steve Bernier has come from nowhere to really make a difference in these playoff games.

Now the Ducks play the Sharks, I didnt get to see game 1 so I'm interested to see this one.

I love playoff time, hockey all day long is just fine with me.

I only saw a little of the San Jose game, I hope to stay up for this one. I took tomorrow off so I have no reason not too.

Caroline vs. NJ is a good one. Going to OT.

I feel sick. Power play is non-existent and Hiller is unsolved.

Yeah, this is a little nuts. Hiller has really kind of come out of nowhere this year, though I feel bad for Giguere, he was one of the few Ducks I actually like.

Hopefully the Sharks will go down and make a series of it in Anaheim; I've seen bigger comebacks than this!

I was sorry to see the Pens lose, because I really loathe the flyers, but I still think they'll be OK in their series.
